I bought neverwinter nights platinum and the intall/play disc 1 was crunched.  The other discs are fine.  I keep getting virus alerts any time I try to find an iso of cd 1.  Any help here please.  perhaps there is a different way to do this, but not sure how to install without the dang install cd.  Thanks, Isaac

No one here will actively encourage you to pirate the game  - however, assuming you have the instruction manual and a valid cd key. There is very little chance anyone would accuse you of committing any crime, since the game manual and the cdkey are your property and the cdkey gives you the entitlement of playing the game.

Not sure if posting links to torrent sites would be allowed, so instead I will post some search queries that you could try at your own risk.

Google: Proxy Bay or Pirate Bay Proxies

(I am in the UK, and my ISP blocks pirate bay)

While Pirate Bay does facilitate the supply of pirated material, the context in which you wish to use it is simply to get a replacement disc, which you can prove you are entitled to. Which means this is probably one of the more legal scenarios for downloading ISO's.

Note - I would be very surprised if Neverwinter Nights Deluxe edition is not on pirate bay.

Of course the 100% legal option is to buy the game again from GOG.com

I have my own reservation about that however, because if you bought the game once before, can prove that you are legally entitled to the game (eg: have the box and cdkey etc), then buying the game on GOG.com seems like a waste of money. Even if it is 1-10 dollars, out of principle, you shouldn't have to pay again for something you own already.

Of course, none of this applies to me, cause I just run nwn from the same directory on my computer, and its always been transferred to new computers etc

Not even sure when the last time I saw my install disc was, simply because I don't need it.

Go to whomever you bought it from and try to get a replacement disc. If they won't replace the broken disc, don't buy anything from them ever again, and buy NWN from GoG as suggested above.

Just buy it from GoG and be done with it.

But don't you need to install NWN on the new PC to get the registry entries? Sure, there's nothing stopping you backing up the install folder but you won't have the registry entries. I guess you could just back them up also, but I'm not sure how EZ that is and I generally don't like to mess with registries. I guess it might also be possible to make the installation "portable", nowadays. I might look into this..

Running nwupdate will restore missing registry entries.

Pretty sure it uses the nwn.ini to get the folder paths relatively from the executable run directory.

So I have never had any trouble with registry entries.

Only issue I have had with registry entries, was when I was making my own apps that tried to determine the install directory - then I realized I didn't have the registry entry, but the game was still functional without the registry entries.

Why would a merchant replace a game disc that he broke?

Then the merchant will have given two copies of the game for the price of one, through no fault of his own.

If you bought the game once, you are entitled to play the game. The means of how you get the installation media is up to you, but out of principle my recommendation is

1. Either don't break your install discs

2. Download an ISO and keep it safe on cloud storage or something

Oh, I thought the disc arrived already broken. If he broke it himself, that is completely different.

My bad - I don't know if he got it crunched out of the box - if so, then yeah, take it back with receipt.

If its too late for that, then yeah, I would resort to getting digital copies of the install disc
