quick bar slots getting lost
« on: October 16, 2015, 12:11:12 am »

With at least one toon I play on a PW, I notice that the slots on his quickbar get mangled between logins. The case that I am noticing is one where two-item slots are affected, though I don't know if the issue is limited to that or not.

In this case, I have the F3 slot set for a short sword and a shield and the F6 slot set for a sling and a shield (the same shield). Then I log out and log back in. Both of those slots on the quickbar are set for a magic bag (both set to open the same one). I have no idea why that would be. I have never deliberately set a quickbar slot to open a magic bag. And, FWIW, it's not even a magic bag containing either of the items I am trying to equip.

A detail that seems significant is that the shield is in a magic bag (though not in the one that gets quickslotted). If I take the shield out of the bag and set up the slots, they remain correct when I relog. If I put the shield back in a bag, the slots are corrupted. It doesn't seem to matter which magic bag I put the shield in.

I also noticed that the magic bag that gets slotted seems to be the same one all the time. So, I dropped that bag on the ground, set up the slots, and then relogged. (The shield was still in another bag in the PC's inventory.) This time, the shield was lost from both slots, but the weapons remained in it.

After all this time, this is probably a known issue related to two-item slots where one item is in a bag, but I didn't see anything when I googled for it. Does anyone know what's going on here? Is there a fix for this? I mean, aside from the non-fix of not putting the item in a bag. (For many of my toons, it's not an issue since I don't keep their shields in bags. But, for dexing toons, some of them are always near encumbrance, so a bag is useful.)

QuickSlots is one of those things that can be changed at the server admins whim through use of nwnx_funcs.

Are you 100% sure that the server admin did not program in this functionality?

I know in one PW Module I was designing a while back - I coded the F11 + F12 quickslots to do text macro's on login.

This was because I saw the command they were bound to as important to the module/player experience.

If this behavior does not occur on other servers - I suspect it is the server owner's scripting that is changing your quickslots.

I guess I wasn't thinking that this was server-specific, though I don't know that it isn't. But, I am almost certain this server is not using NWNX. There have been several suggestions on the server's forums for NWNX-related features, but none have garnered a positive response. It's possible the admins are experimenting with a change. But, I doubt the first noticeable difference would be a change to the quickbar that was not announced or among the requested features.

And, since it is 1) only happening to dual-item-equipping slots, 2) only happening when one of the items is in a container when the PC logs, and 3) happens regardless of which slots are used, it seems sort of unlikely this is intended behavior. It's possible that this could be happening on other servers and people rarely notice it because it isn't that common of an occurrence.

[... 5 minutes later ...]

I just tested this on a local test server and a very similar thing happened. The slots went blank on relogging. (They were not replaced with a slotted bag.). The test server was definitely not running NWNX. It's pretty nearly a plain-jane setup with CEP 2.4. I suspect this behavior is pretty common. Can anyone else test to see what happens to quickslots with two items if they log while one of the items is in a container in the PC's inventory?
