Running NWN in Windows 10 - Post Your Results / Issues Here
« Reply #45 on: April 03, 2016, 09:23:41 pm »

Last month I got Win 10. Haven't been running NWN since then but today I did and was I surprised when I noticed that  the texture pack was set to Compatibility Mode (16 meg). The other texture packs options were greyed out.

Not a huge problem, I can run the game and toolset  fine, it just looks awful.

Any ideas?

run nwconfig and redo your settings for the new OS?
see if your GPU drivers are up to date? make sure you are running on your dedicated GPU and not your onboard?

Yeah, done all that. I also ran the the 1.69 critical rebuild patch. The issue remains.

Thanks for the suggestions, though. '<img'>

Ok, problem solved. Here's how I did it:

In game I changed the video options from Best to Good. Closed the game. Then I went into nwn.ini and edited the line TexturePack=0 to TexturePack=3.

Problem solved.

I am having problems with my NWN complete for Win10, it will not let me load games, it will crash randomly and any sort of customized character comes out some weird silver color. Witch's Wake won't load at all. Whenever I check the Update box it says that it is in version 1.69. What can I do to fix this? I am a casual gamer and not an in depth computer guy so please go easy on me. Please help!

Windows Edition: Win 10 Home

OS Build: 10586.218

Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 945 processor 3.00 GHz

Installed RAM: 8.00 GB

System Type: 64 bit operating system, x64 based processor

At first glance it sounds (yeah mixed whatever) like you may have a borked installation or you haven't installed the critical rebuild patch. If you haven't installed the patch go to the vault and at the top of the screen there is a link labelled patches. Follow that until you come to the one that applies to your version. If that hasn't sorted it come back here.

BTW you have set the compatibility to win XP and run as administrator haven't you?

Thanks, it seems  to have fixed the major issues. but now my premium modules (KM, SG, WW) wont load they keep telling there is an error and that I need to go to demo mode. then they crash back the main screen and my WCOC, POTSC and Infinite dungeons are gone. is there a way to get those resolved?

Hi,

I have Windows 10 pro 32 bit with Neverwinter 1.69.

When I play solo the game is ok, but when I try to log in into a multiplayer server the game crashes with this error (event viewer):

Nombre de la aplicación con errores: nwmain.exe, versión: 1.6.9.0, marca de tiempo: 0x486cfadc

I have tried to reinstall the game and apply the critical patch. All my drivers are up to date, and I have tried different resolutions (the game in solo content is ok).

The game crashes when I log into a server and try to show me the character creation section. I dont see it, It just says : Neverwinter has stopped working and logs the error in the event viewer.

Also I have tried the game with compatibility mode (Windows XP SP2 and SP3), UAC off, Firewall off, run in admin mode. reinstalling the game without UAC, trying different sources for installation (gog and diamond), etc.

The game is installed in C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN

My graphic card is Nvidia GTX 950 (but the pc is old, Dual core E6600).

The error means 0xc0000005 access violation. I have tried to monitorize the files and the registry of the game while running but I dont see any file/registry error, I think its a memory access violation. I have done a memory test and the RAM is ok.

Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance

U delete and re-install all prem mods after Crit Rebuild patch?  Premum in registry prolly trying to find old NWN install data so if delete premium (delete all .dat too) then use your complete game to install all premium agin it should work.  Premium don know that you have new register data from rebuild so you must help them find it.  See if that help.  Am thinking that sum of premium need to be loaded from server but will need to check sticky.

Solved,

It was the computer name with non standard characters. I have changed the computer name to standard characters and the game is working in mutliplayer too.
