Neverwinter Nights Diamond Installation Problem
« on: December 12, 2014, 10:46:42 pm »

Hello,

I have the a disk for Neverwinter Nights Diamond and I'm trying to install it on my computer.  However, whenever I try to open the 'Setup' application on the disk (even as an administrator), a box appears for a split second saying that 'it's preparing the InstallShield' and then immediately after a blank error/information box pops up with an exclamation mark in it and the only option is to press 'OK'.

I've looked at the self-help threads pinned here but I can't even get past this random blank error box that pops up.

Windows 7 Home Premium

service pack 1

2.60ghz

64-bit

Does anyone know how I can install the game using the disk?

I think you will get more response if you post this in the Neverwinter Nights 2/Technical forum instead of here.

Hello,

I have the a disk for Neverwinter Nights 2 and I'm trying to install it on my computer.  However, whenever I try to open the 'Setup' application on the disk (even as an administrator), a box appears for a split second saying that 'it's preparing the InstallShield' and then immediately after a blank error/information box pops up with an exclamation mark in it and the only option is to press 'OK'.

I had to do this with my NWN2 disks - copy the disks directly to your desktop, creating a directory for each named "disk1," disk2," etc. Then run the setup file in the "disk1" folder. When prompted to insert "disk2," etc., navigate to your desktop and select the appropriate directory.

Yes, even with compatibility mode the same error message appears.

Perhaps your problem could be related to a write rights issue. Windows 7 is very strict enforcing write/modify policy especially if you install on the system drive. In the case your system has 2 hard drives or more, you can try installing on a secondary HDD. Did you really log as administrator before the install process ? (beware, an account with administrator rights can be different than the administrator account).  There is the remote possibility that your disk is damaged or dirty (scratchs, smear...) or your Disk Drive misaligned. Clean your disk from any grease or marks with a soft tissue. Big scratchs can be mitigated with a light rubbing using car plastic scratch remover/polish (note: this method is a last chance attempt, only to be done if you are sure your disk is damaged). A simple predictor of a good working Drive is to open and browse the Nwn Diamond disk folders. If you can do it, chances are the drive is OK.

I'd install it in a Neverwinter Nights folder in the root folder, not in Program Files, but it looks like you aren't even getting that far.

Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this?  I've uploaded screenshots of what I'm experiencing.  117rzfm.jpg154acf7.jpg

I see that you appear to have copied the files across onto your hd and are apparently trying to run it from there. Is there any particular reason for this? Have you tried the following ->

  1. put cd/dvd in cd/dvd drive

  2.
  3. open computer/my computer from desktop/start menu (os dependant)

  4.
  5. double click on cd/dvd icon

I copied it as a test to see if that would work.  All the above images are from when I ran it from the actual disk.  I've even tried running the 'Setup' in safemode with the same results.

Double clicking on the icon just opens up the directory you see above which is labeled 'DVD RW Drive (D:) NW_DIAMOND'

Yes, I am the only Administrator for the computer I am trying to install in on.  And the disk has absolutely no scratches on it at all.  I've barely used it.

I have "solved" the problem.  I just copied the files from the disk to a flash drive and installed in on my ASUS tablet then moved the files to my desktop.

Still not sure why it wouldn't install on my desktop to begin with and after browsing this forum I see I'm not the only person who had the exclamation error box of doom, buuuuut it's only computer now.

Thanks everyone for trying to help.
