If it's only your client that crashes then you could try to empty your override folder, if there are any files in there. You can rename it temporarily and see if there are still isues.
Otherwise you can try compatibility mode for Windows XP or try this, if you haven't already:

4. If that doesn't work, experiment with different values in the same line. I have seen lots of different numbers given as advice and one of our vista computers needed it set to -2, but BW reccommends 1.
If the whole server crashes try to set its compatibility mode to Windows XP and run it as administrator. Our server often crashed very often, when a DM tried to log in and it wasn't set to run as administrator.
