Having extreme issues with NWN
« on: September 21, 2012, 07:52:03 am »

Okay hi. I haven't played NWN in a while, but today I decided to reinstall it, and since then I've had nothing but issues. First I install it, boot it up, and eveyone is extremely sluggish; takes forever to click, the swirling graphics are going super slow, and after sluggishly getting through the menus, the game runs at like 1 fps. Naturally, I go about trying to fix it, trying all kinds of graphic settings, compatability, etc. Nothing works, so I decide to update my drivers (which is odd considering I've had 0 issues with NWN2, Dragon Age, Witcher, and Crusader Kings 2, my most intensive games.) Finally finish updating drivers, and it boots up ONCE without issues, showing me the fps problem is gone; and BAM, it crashes. Now it crashes 9/10 times instantly as I boot it, and if I DO get it up, it will crash if I alt tab or change settings. I once again messed with compatability, settings via the outside config, and made sure my other games worked still. I have no idea what's going on, and it's either play at 1fps with old drivers, or don't play at all. If it matters, I'm running Vista 32 bit.

Last note; I did notice something very odd, the config.ini states my graphics card is [Video Card]
Type=LogMeIn Mirror Driver. It's claiming Hamachi is my display driver.

What kind of video card do you have? Also, you probably went the wrong way with your drivers. You don't want more current drivers, you want older ones. NWN uses OpenGL, which newer drivers aren't optimizing for.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330, but I'm not exactly sure where to get older drivers, or what versions supported OpenGL.

I would check your laptop manufacturer's website, and go with the earliest version they have. What brand is it?

Dell Inspiron 1545, and I looked, and while they contain drivers for this model, none of them are for the graphics card.

Are you sure? I searched by your model and found an ATI M92 Graphic Driver listed under the Video section.

Ahh, now I see it; but now I must ask my self, what the hell is the m92 when my gpu is a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330? "Compatibility Systems Inspiron 1545; Applies to M92." Maybe I'm just dumb, but that doesn't seem right to me. o.o

I understand your confusion. '<img'>  However, the 4330 is codenamed "M92-SE", as it's from the M92 series of GPUs.

Thanks for the replies, but it doesn't matter now. RAM failed on the laptop, so now it's just a paper weight.
