NWN Diamond...bad install file???
« on: July 14, 2012, 09:05:03 pm »

Hi all.  I just purchased NWN Diamond from a retailer off Amazon.com.  The DVD came and I went to install it on my Windows XP machine and all I got was a blank information box with an OK button and then no install.  I wrote Atari support and was told to get a replacement disc from my retailer.  Yeah, right Atari, this game is old and it was about the last copy being sold by the retailer.

Okay, not to be deterred, I took a look at the files on the DVD.  It looked like all the install .zips and .cabs were there so I figured I'd give it a shot installing it the old fashioned way (ala WinZip).  Well, for the most part that seemed to work well.  All of the data files unpacked into the directory I set for them (including both expansion packs).  Although Data1.cab and Data2.cab (in the main DVD directory) gave me errors saying they couldn't be opened because they did not conform to Microsoft's CAB standard set in Mid-1998  blah blah....

So, I do have the data files onto my harddrive, but now I need to go in and register the game with Windows registry with my keycodes.  Would some kind soul please post the windows registry (regedit.exe) values for NWN Diamond WITHOUT your keycodes.  I want to manually add these to my Windows registry to see if my game works and I'm not out $20.

Can someone help, please?

Just PM'd registry info I formally forwarded to another NWN amigo who wanted to move all the NWN files from one machine to another but needed the registry set-up.  Copy/paste into the standard forum posts are a nightmare so if what was sent to you via PM  is NOT what you wanted, you will need to be more descriptive as to exactly what you were looking for. I also made up a Word doc containing screenshots of the actual procedure to add entries if you need that, but it appears you are familiar with modifying registry entries in XP.  There's also a note about how to obtain a unique GUID within that tedious listing, if you haven't generated one yourself.

Keep us posted, please.

Awesome!  That is EXACTLY what I was looking for.  I figured I might as well try installing it on my Toshiba laptop (Windows 7 64-bit).  After unzipping the data files into my NWN directory, I went in and added the windows registry keys from your PM.  I created unique GUIDs and changed the paths to where I unzipped the data files for the appropriate keys.

The initial version of the unpacked data files on the DVD were 1.00 (found by trial and error).  So I then ran the 1.66 patch off of the DVD to bring me up to version 1.66.  I then found a post of yours elsewhere stating where I could get the 1.69 update fix.  Got it, ran it. Updated.

Went to run the game, and SWEET, there it was!  Runs great!  Thanks for all your help!
