               Try the following steps first:

-Disable Hardware Sound
-Disable Shiny Water

Just to make sure they're not the problem (they're fairly common problems)!

You'd have better luck of getting some useful suggestions for your rig if you published your full specs as described in the "Start here" sticky ^^.  Otherwise, you may have to settle for blind stabs.  New rigs sometimes require tweaking to get older games like NWN to function properly and there are MANY new flavors, aren't there?                I already did, and it does not help. especially for the aurora toolset, sometimes it slows to a crawl, it takes ages to update an instance.

Well, one problem with following Shia's sticky, which is fairly comprehensive, is that it was intended to be just a "How-to" guide rather than a proactive problem-solver for newer and newer rigs so there is only so much that can be gleaned.

I have a few questions.

Has this been upgraded to v1.69 via Critical Rebuild?  Main reason for asking is to find out if you are running the game purely off the hard drive or through a disc reader.   I don't think think the toolset uses any resources off the disc anyway so if that is slow too, it's prolly not disc-read latency.

Appears to be a desktop rig.  Is it?

Have you tried any of the older video drivers?  There have been mixed reports regarding whether nVidia has consistently supported OpenGL and the method they have used to do so in each instance.  (NWN was written with a very old version of OpenGL, btw.)

There may be another, more appropriate version of the Bink player available through the Web.  I believe NWN only ever furnished the 32-bit player and how it works with a 64-bit system is... well... that is something I have not yet been priviledged to confront myself.  Just tossing it out for consideration though.. dunno if this would even affect the toolset.

A final suggestion, as I recognize how the volume of participants has shrunk on the forum...

Revise your topic title replacing "modern system" (which could be just about anything) with both "GeForce GTX 580M" and either "Core i7 980" or "6-core Intel".  I suspect you will have company eventually.  Just keep checking.

-critical rebuild, of course, no real patch available via the updater so I used the critical rebuild '<img'>
-laptop rig
-I can't. older drivers won't support Skyrim properly, nor dragon age. But I have nvidia nspector for some advanced tweaking, if you think it's useful.
-Bink player? isn't that used for the movies only?

-will change the title, thanks '<img'>

I'm running Neverwinter Nights, Skyrim and Dragon Age fine on an Nvidia card using release WHQL version 285.58.

You can download it here. [XP] 285.58
You can download it here. [W7 64bit] 285.62

Use the legacy driver search here and backtrack through all WHQL releases until you find one that works well enough for you on all three games.

I've not updated my driver since Skyrim and have had no problems playing anything.

It might, for it does support OpenGL. You have to remember, different PCs have different hardware and configuration, which means you might have to try different drivers to get the results you're looking for.

You'll need to modify the appropriate .ini file to use a single core when running the toolset, to maximize its full potential.
