Strange Installation problem
« on: June 28, 2011, 03:46:06 pm »

So I wanted to show my little cousin the glory that is NWN. But when I tried to install the Diamond edition, it didn't work. If I autoplay it, I can see the menu art but no buttons to click on. When I run the setup all I get is a big exclamation mark with the text "information" or something similar. All I can do is press OK at that pop-up. I'm pretty sure he is running windows xp (I'm not there atm)

I tried googling this problem, but to no avail. The dvd works perfectly on my pc.
Need some help here '<img'>

cheers!

Strange Installation problem

I figured it out myself. I'll add the solution for future reference.
I did a manual install, where I extracted the shared data, the windows data (in data map) and the xp1 and xp2 date in to a map. Then I ran the autoupdater and applied a manual update aswell. This got things working. I also had some problems with the dvd drive not responding to the dvd, but this seemed to be unrelated.

Hope this helps people with the same problem.

If it's XP, there should be no problem.  Vista & Win7 usually requires some tweaking, if he/she is using one of those OS configs.  Typically, if so, run at compatibility XP/SP2 or XP/SP3 and perhaps make sure that the game installs directly off the C: (or main) drive and not inside the Program Files folder.  I am not a user of either of those but there are tips for Win7 install in this forum that seems to apply also for Vista install.

Otherwise, once you have gotten more complete details of the configuration being used (See "Start Here" sticky), post those and we will go from there.
