I'm running an Asus M4A785-M with an AMD Athlon II x2 260 processor, 4GB of DDR2 1066 RAM, and using an ATI Radeon HD 4350 video card.

I've tried disabling sound, setting CPU Comparability, running as admin, full permissions, and with desktop composition and visual themes disabled. I've updated my drivers, tried rolling back my drivers, and updating them again. I installed Diamond, installed the patch, installed the critical rebuild, then uninstalled it and tried it all again.

And even still I have horrible frame rate anywhere outside of the main NWN menu. I am honestly stumped and need help fixing this issue.

HALP!

               Tried fiddling with both the Catalyst AI and the advanced AA settings?

               I tried every possible combination of settings between the two of those and none of it helped.

               You're the second person that has problems with NWN in WinXP that has this...

[Video Card]
Type=RDPDD Chained DD  <----------------------- WTF?
VRAM=4096  <-------------------------------- WTF?

As a Detected Videocard by NWN Config utility. Now I'm not sure why your HD 4350 as not
been detected, but I figureit might be important for the game to know the correct graphic card
to use (Drivers(?)) and I also noticed that your VRAM is at (=4096) and I sincerely doubt that
your HD 4350 has that much VideoRAM.

               I actually show the same values with a GTX 285, and have no problem at all (aside of my well-known Freezing Creatures...) However, it says 1024 in RAM, when I'm actually in a 6 gigs machine! Could this be the reason I'm having my very own set of issues? If so, what value should I change it to?

VRAM = VIDEO RAM
            NOT
SYSTEM RAM

In your case your 6GB is System Ram not Video Ram, the 1024=1GB of VideoRAM is correct
No issues there.

               I feel silly for not saying this...

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. I think the .ini was showing XP because I was running it in XP Compatibility mode.

               A few tidbits of info...

RDPDD is RemoteDesktopProtocolDisplay(Device/Driver). This is a component of Remote Desktop Assistant built into Win7.

Chained... because multiple GPU's are present, possibly in SLI or Crossfire.

VRAM=4096 is possible as I can attest. My two 295 GTX's net 4 GPU's, each with its own 1 gig of VRAM.

Sadly, my searching has yielded no reliable answer to the questions that arise.

Why does nwconfig (and many other games) report RDPDD as the active video device? Is it real, or a figment from an outdated config?

What drivers are in use? As I understand it RDPDD uses its own collection of MS drivers. I emphasize "MS drivers" because it has been reported that such do not support OpenGL.

It may be paranoia, but I am not at all comfortable with the situation. The only saving grace is that my system actually performs acceptably.

Err, no, that is why I specified the previous VRAM value was the same as the thread's author. The 1024 value was for RAM, not VRAM.

               Likewise.

Nwconfig reports my RAM=4096 , the same as my total VRAM (in SLI) despite an actual 12 gigs of system ram.

Then in this case, you should enter manualy RAM=6144 if your system reports it has 6GB
and enter the proper VRAM=(*Value*) if not correct.

Don't know if it will/would have any impact, but its worth to check it out.

               Exactly what I thought! I have already manually entered the 6144 value in RAM, but what should I put in both VRAM and Type? I have the exact same values the opening poster does, but I am using a 1024 MB ddr3 GTX 285... Should I put 1024 as VRAM?

Also, the config file doesn't seem to recognize if the card is either an Nvidia or ATI, nor the driver's version... Is this relevant? ':huh:'

Looks like I quoted the wrong post before, oh well. Yeah, you should put 1024 for your VRAM if it's not the current value as it is. I don't why the TYPE is not listed, all I know is that in windows XP my HD 4870 is found and listed by the NWN config Util and in my other system which has an HD 5770 and VIsta as the operating system the TYPE is not listed but the amount of VRAM is correct.

               I'm just throwing this out there, blindly, but have you tried disabling shiny water in your game settings?  If I remember correctly, shiny water creates havoc on ATI/AMD video cards... in fact, I believe I've had issues on all the cards I've owned.

               @ MingWolf

Ever since the ATI HD series of cards and drivers, the Shiny water is not displayed correctly, it's basicaly broken so no doubt the OP as it turned off.

But on the subject, I've owned a few ATI cards before the HD series when the drivers where not broken on the "Shiny Water" and I had it on all the time and never experienced any problems related to Shiny water, so anyone claiming they experienced issues with it "ON" must of been something else but was "Calmed" to some extent when they happened to turn off shiny water and came to the wrong conclusion that it was because of it.

With my extensive experience in computers both hardware and software, no problems can arise with one person but not another with the same product "IF" the one to claim to have issues doesn't have a defective product... mostly a hardware one usually.
