Recommended Settings?
« on: January 10, 2011, 12:26:57 pm »

It has been about a year since I have been able to play, and it appears that I have forgotten so very much. My fingers are used to playing DAO, and I have to mentally recall to left and right click as needed. My first attempt at a build became flawed, and all in all I am behind the curve again.

What are some recommended nwn.ini settings? I remembered to set Max HP = 1, but cannot recall any other advised changes.

Any helpful Tech tips will be greatly appreciated. Now back to try and find a decent Video graphic setting for this widescreen monitor.

nVidia GeForce 240GT or Higher is a good graphics card - I havent found any game that it cant run.

In regards to nwn.ini settings, is that not the ini that sets folder paths?

Do you mean nwnplayer.ini ?

Also, if you are running a server locally, you may need to set nwserver processor affinity to 0x01.

Use either imagecfg.exe or, if it works for you, use the ini setting - cant remember it off hand.

er...I have a nVidia 9800 GT, so graphics are covered, but I have no clue of the other stuff.

The nwn.ini file is the one with all the =0 or =1 options such as Max HP and the like, I believe.

I have not played yet; have not even chosen a final graphic setting yet as I have a newish monitor, and am still getting used to moving from 800x600 settings.

Try updating drivers at the nVidia site; could not hurt, I believe.

               Haha,

Its funny you mentioned updating drivers

As far as nVidia are concerned, updating your drivers CAN hurt.

Last year, they released a patch, that made nwn load up a black screen. It was a case of having to use the older patch/drivers.

If its not broke, dont try to fix it.

Next question: the entire Game Interface is missing (ie; Portrait, Quickbar, etc), and hitting the 'H' key is not bring it back. Any suggestions?

What did you do to get it to not appear?

I mean, did it appear before now, or has it been like this since you installed nwn?

It could be a case of having to reinstall nwn, but thats like the Navy just turning their radio's off and on to fix a fault.... doesnt intuitivly diagnose the problem, just might have a chance of fixing it.

I do not recall seeing it at all; just finally realized I could not load the Hotkeys.

I reinstalled everything for the third time (I hates to input three lines of passcode, too), and this time managed to complete each indv step; still no luck. The Character Portrait, Quickbar, etc is still MIA.

Bueller?

You're not dumping anything EXTRA in to the override directory, are ye my lord?

FP!

The only stuff in the Override is the stuff from Bioware via install and patching. Should these be dumped, too?

There should be 9 files from BW in there iirc. (They are only loadscreeens so if you do remove them nothing terrible should happen, but leave them there is better.)

So, the problem is you have no GUI at all? I have never heard of that!

Ummm, double check under key settings that "h" is mapped as the toggle gui key? Perhaps it got remapped somehow and now there is no key to turn the GUI back on?

...And the game plays ok and you can see your character and the right textures and everything, just no GUI?

I'll keep thinking but.... that's weird. ''

Based on some other tips, I have resized my game with a different resolution, and am able to see the GUI while in Window mode, but not on full screen. The next suggestion is to add and run Win XP simulator to see if that will fix the issue. As this will require more download time, I will wait for an off day.

Windows Virtual PC and XP Mode plus another install has the game kinda working with the GUI.

But the graphics settings have to be turned wayyyy down, the game appears in a window slightly larger than a postcard, lag is visible even on character creation, etc; not so much fun.

Any more helpful tips?
