Putting a server/module online?
« on: November 23, 2010, 04:29:08 am »

How do I go about putting my server/module online for other people to play it?  I followed the directions in a tutorial I saw on the Bioware site telling me to you the NWserver.exe and I chose my server, set the module name, set it as PW Story and player password and clicked 'Load'.  However, when I open the game and get to the Gamespy server list I can't find my server/module under PW Story so I clicked on Direct Connect and an IP address was already entered so I entered the player password and was able to get onto my server/module.

However, when I gave my friend the same IP address that I saw and the password he was not able to log into the server, nor could he see it under the PW Story section.

I'm not sure what I did wrong seeing as I followed the directions in the tutorial and I'd really appreciate some advice and help so I can have my friend test certain features of my module/server.

Thanks in advance.

When you load nwserver.exe, is the "Post Game to Internet" checkbox unchecked? If so, your game is (unsurprisingly) not being posted to the internet. To fix this, change the Gamespy Enabled setting in your nwnplayer.ini file from 0 to 1, save the file, then load nwserver.exe again. The checkbox should now be checked, and when the server is loaded it should be visible on Gamespy. I am not sure if the tutorial mentioned this, since I am not sure what tutorial you are using.

Found the link to the tutorial:  http://nwn.bioware.c...winserver2.html

And yes, the 'Post Game to Internet' box is checked and grayed out.

If you're behind a firewall you're going to have to open the correct ports so that you can advertise to Gamespy your server is up and running.  As a note you'll probably not be able to see it on gamespy since you're inside the network.
