Is there a -home type switch for NWN1?
« on: September 09, 2010, 09:28:14 am »

Hello.  I just reloaded NWN1.  Is there a -home type of switch for a NWN1 shortcut?

In a NWN2 shortcut, the -home switch creates a new, fresh directory for NWN2 to use.  This keeps haks, overrides, etc... required for specific modules/PWs, etc... from becoming mixed up and/or conflicting.  I have several NWN2 shortcuts, a different shortcut for each module/PW.  This is very handy.

In case i've confused everyone, this is a portion from the NWN2 1.23 patch notes:

General

New client command line option: -home.  Allows user to specify an alternative location to "My Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2" [/list]Thanks in advance!

No such luck for NWN 1.  all haks go to nwn/hak and all overrides go to NWN/override.  There are some override manages about, but they are third party.

Thanks.  I was just hoping.  I'll look into the override managers.  I may just do the folder renaming thing.

As Calvin said, all haks are in one folder and all overrides are in another one. The haks won't interfere with each other, in that the game only loads those associated with the current module/PW. As to override managers, I would suggest checking Goudea's NWNLauncher.

One thing about nwn is that you have to manualy download your own content.  Yes there are some self exstractors out there but the game does not down load the CC for the PW's for you.

The only thing I can thing of for you to try would be to tell your shortcut to Start in a different directory, Then in that directory place your modified .ini file to tell the game where to get the content for that shortcut.

I have not tested this out.  It is just an Idea.

I know that a few popular overrides and haks for NWN2 conflict, so it's easy to use -home for each different module you play.  There's a couple of guys working on consolidating those overrides/haks.  I'm just trying to avoid the same situation with NWN1, but it sounds like it isn't much of a problem.

I appreciate the help pointing me in the right direction.  I'll test the suggestions made this weekend.

Thanks

NWNLauncher seems to be the way to go.

I will mess with the shortcut and ini file when I have extra time.  I found and old thread about it.

Thanks
