               this is nvidias response

Hello Rusty,

Thank you for providing the requested information

Since the issue is only with a particular game and when displaying Cloaks Robes or Ranged Weapons I suggest that you try to reinstall the game and if the issue persists

Please let us know the results of trying to reinstall the game to help us analyze the issue further

1. Since when are you facing this issue? Was the system working before without any issues
or error messages?
this problem only started after i bought a GTX 460 SSC+
yes my system worked just fine with my older 9800 GT
2. What are the different driver versions you have tried? Could you please let us know the
steps performed to update the drivers?
259.31_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_international
266.58_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whql
270.51_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_beta
i have installed all 3 with clean install option applied
i get no errors or problems with installs
3. Did you try reinstalling the game or updating the latest patches for the game?
yes i have uninstalled and reinstalled my game and installed latest releases and updates
aswell as the critical rebuild of nwn for patch 1.69
4. Do you have this issue only while in this game or in all games / applications? If yes then
please mention those games / applications
no this happens in only this game
"Neverwinter Nights" and only when cloaks robes or ranged weapons are in
my veiwable screen

why do they insist its the games problem when there is so much info about it

Try Project IGI: I'm going in!

EDIT: Nevermind, this game is DX7a... I thought it was OGL singe this game is screwed
           using my 9800GT even.

The driver this released this April will not fix the issue, it's been pushed back yet again so maybe in the June update.... On it goes. Considering the number of people still playing this game I'm surprised this issue isn't being worked out faster. Yes I looked at the numbers, they may not be mega but still from a ten year old game the numbers are still pretty impressive.

crap, I got one of these cards too!!!
I tested it and although I am not seeing the horrible problems and stuttering others have claimed its def. is NOT better then my old 8500GT 512MB

it runs at about 15-20 fps..which is ...ok...but the kinda strobe stutter is anoying as all hell...looks like I need two pc;s hooked up,one just to play my favorite game...
ugh!

well I installed GLintercept and followed directions in this thread mentioned above:

http://forums.nvidia...dpost&p=1193251

and it seems to have fixed all of my issues.
of course I never had the texture problem just the slow downs and stuttering when moving the camera towards any skinned/cloaked or bowstringed creatures...
now I am getting FPS in the +60

yay!!

so for those only having slow issues (not texture problem) I suggest giving this a go until a preferable fix by nvida themselves comes out (not holding my breath)

Thanks for the heads-up, LOW. That was on my to-do list of things to try, and it's encouraging to see confirmation that it seems to be a workable solution. I'll pass that along to the NVIDIA forum thread if you haven't already -- perhaps it will help the techs identify and fix the driver problem.

BTW, which version of GLIntercept did you use? Part of my hesitation was that the one linked in the forums thread looked to be several years old, and I found a more recent one with searching. If you didn't have any problems with the older linked one, perhaps I'll just give that a try.

I downloaded the several years old one.
Its still not 'perfect' all the time..but 90% of the time it behaves as I would expect a 1gig video card to deliver, the other 10% is a choppy camera move when I try to reorient it. but before that fix it was always choppy and the video always seemed ...like slurry...is that even a word? it was always like out of focus because the frame changes seemed like they were those old flip-a-book cartoons.

so its def. a better way to play...but a real fix as I said I would prefer.

and I tested using CEP.
my own PW which has a load of custom content/haks/textures.
so again, i can confirm its better then before.

and no I didnt post to Nvidia. so if you want to go ahead and maybe give them a heads up.

Wow, Wow, Wow! Let's step back a moment and cool down for the benefit of my selfishness... This GLIntercept, I read the homepage description but couldn't make heads or tails as to the inner workings of it, what it actually does that could fix the 400+ series graphical issues with NWN.

I don't have one of the new cards yet, but I've been monitoring this and other similar threads in hopes of finding a fix for my very own on-fire script-freezing creatures issue. In your far-wiser-than-mine opinion, could this tweak of GLIntercept do something for me too? Could my thing be Open GL related?

what it seems to do from what I understand is that it somehow intercepts the GL calls and forces certain modes to be thrown through the application.
the info I think intercepts vertex weight(juggly and flowing cloth/hair,etc) and the like.

what I have seen is that indeed, without it my game is choppy,freezes,etc...with cloaks, horses, skinned creatures, custom haks..etc..
then with it, those exagerrated freezes go away...its still not perfect like I said but I can play again at medium to medium-high settings with environment shadows off and its smooth.

(would like a fix to max settings though as this IS a 1024gig card after all!!)

I finally got around to testing out this solution on my XP system, and I can confirm Lord of Worms' results exactly. The problem is largely eliminated, and in particular the choppy beating of Pegasus wings that was really ruining my flying scenes is completely gone. As LOW said it's not perfect, but with this fix NWN definitely appears to be playable and usable with my GTX 470.

Have you guys tried running NWN in a Linux distro? I hear it is the fastest possible experience when it comes to this particular game. Perhaps it would solve the +400 card problems. I'm actually right now downloading Mint in order to virtualize it in a Windows 7 Ultimate 64bits host, in hopes it may fix my own problems. Can't hurt to try, right?

the nwn linux version ( with nvidia linux drivers ) is no good either. i am running a 460 gtx card on a ubuntu 10.10 linux distro and i have the same  15 - 20 fps shuttering when robes and bow strings are present. i am trying to install glintercept and nwn under wine, but i am having no luck.

I have a hard enough time learning all the xtra video settings under windows...nevermind trying my hand at a linux install (I only have about 2 levels in linux but my other character has about 20 levels of Windows.. and thats from countless hours dungeon crawling through vista installs and failed admin applications.)
but if someone can get it to work in linux then maybe Nvidia can gander at the concept and maybe 'see' the simple fix..its gotta be in there somewhere!
