I tried the beta drivers because it said it had better compatibility with older games, i.e. gothic 1&2, but it did not work.

I've been looking at other threads on other forums spouting the same issue but with different games. Apparently Warhammer Online for one suffers the same problem of low frame rates. Of course I don't know how wide spread that problem is.

I do not have extension limit as an option under 3d settings/global settings.

Did you apply as global setting or as a program settting.

For those who are interested this, you start the nvidia control panel under control panel -> Hardware and Sound

Under the 3d settings menu, select the manage 3d settings sub field.
The panel should pop up with the global settings tab selected.
Extension limit
Threaded Optimization
are both options available there....

I honestly hope that this is the issue for all you 400 series owners.

I must assume gtx 400 series cards use a different control panel, as extention limit does not exist under those options.

hmmmmmmmm are you under standard or advanced settings?

EDIT:  Really I think you should be able to go to program settings and specify the settings for NWN.

under advanced settings and under the specific program settings, there is not extension limit.

Hmmmm wonder if that is the source of the issue or for the 460 it is simply somewhere else..... or maybe it's changed with newer driver versions... I think I'm running 197.45... well all the info on what I'm runnning is up above.  if I had a 460 to test with I would.

With no intention to "rain on anyone's parade", it shouldn't hurt to acknowledge that nVIDIA has very seriously amended their focus in the last three years.  Chipsets had been a major part of their business, then AMD puchased ATI, and their chipsets had the advantage by a sizable margin.

The nVIDIA CEO is a very feisty, contrary sort of individual, and when Intel begain squeezing his company out of the market for Intel chipsets, he became publicy aggressive toward the 900 pound gorilla of chip makers.  Kinda like a tiny Chihuahua versus a Great Dane or Irish Wolfhound.  That didn't help things much at all.

When both AMD and Intel announced plans for integrated CPUs with the graphics included in the basic design, that was nVIDIA's signpost saying they had to redirect the company.  The last two GPU generations have been directed toward competing with CPU makers as a massively parallel mathematical / scientific processor, not specifically toward the end- users who have supported their GPUs since they got started.

Both the GFX200s and GFX400s have apparently been a major challenge to deal with when used as GPUs instead of as CPUs, at least when it comes to getting the drivers right.  This became obvious regarding older model GPUs not being fully supported by about 30% of the drivers the last three years, and periodic seiges of problems with a widely assorted legacy game list.

I still had more problems with my ATI then this nvidia card. With ATI I had problems with Dragon Age, Fallout 3, and a few other games I cannot recall at the time. Those problems were widely known and never addressed. I switched to nvidia and have an issue with one game, which is NWN.

I do not deny everything you state though but I speak from personal experience.

Also, keep this thread on track please. Your post has no real value.

I see limit extension in my drivers, 258.96 WHQL, for 8800GT.

Setting it does not help though. If anything it went slower and floor textures were ruined.

I confirm this after reverting back to latest nonbeta drivers. Some of the terrain textures are a little odd but the game is now playable. Thanks a million Sen!
