Linux user, disconnecting from server within minutes of joining

Well, this is a little late for a reply, but given the set of symptom's you describe, my first thought is toward a network problem as Lord Sullivan notes. I have had situations with similar behavior from a failing router. Is there any chance your router is on it's last legs? If you can, perhaps try a substitution of your router, cables, and network interface.

Thank you for reminding me of this thread. The issue has been gone for some time.

About a month after the issue went away, the server admin mentioned to me that it was probably his fault that I was being disconnected.

After he got back from the hospital, he apologized again and I said that it was okay, and that I was sorry for acting so rashly. He informed me that it was likely his firewall did not like me, and that the issue seemed to stop around the same time he did away with his firewall.

At the present time, this seems like the most reasonable conclusion as to the source of the problems. Nonetheless, thank you, everyone, for your help.
