               I installed NWN on my new laptop and although it's basically running correctly (I set it to compatibility mode for XP SP 3 etc.) for some reason it only displays on a portion of the screen. The whole picture takes up 800x600 pixels in the middle of the screen and the rest is black. I can't even put my mouse cursor in the black section.

I don't really know why this is. I've tried changing the resolution in the menu and in NWN.ini but nothing seems to happen. Apparently I have the latest drivers for my graphics card so I'm a bit lost.

Game Version: NWN 1.69 SoU HotU
Game Language: English
Retail or Digital: Retail CD
Processor Manufacturer: Intel
Processor Type: Intel core i3
Processor Speed: 2.13 GHz
Operating System / Service Pack: Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
System RAM: 4 GB
Video Card Manufacturer: Intel
Video Card Model:  Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD
Video Card RAM: 1696 MB? (I don’t know that’s what it says)
Video Card Driver Version: Intel 8.15.10.1986 (? Looks more like an IP address than a driver version.)

I’ve got two possible results for the next bit.

Sound Card Manufacturer: Realtek
Sound Card Model: Realtek High Definition Audio
Sound Card Driver Version: 6.0.1.5964

Sound Card Manufacturer: Intel
Sound Card Model: Intel ® Display Audio
Sound Card Driver Version: 6.12.0.3037

CD/ROM Type: CD/DVD R/RW

               32-bit or 64-bit Win7?

Consider upgrading to one provided through the   Intel DL site   Seems like they have a nifty scan engine that will determine exactly what you need and if you are up-to-date.

Read all the driver information.  In some cases, the provider will state specifically the problems each upgrade addresses.  Beware of the OEM disclaimer posted.

Your Vdriver APPEARS to be an older version (the last number on the DL site drivers are in the 2000 range, yours is only 1986), but I am only guessing.  At the Intel site, there may be a search dedicated to locating legacy drivers to determine the release date.  If not available on Intel site, Goog the driver model to locate other DL sources.

Have you tried accessing the driver adjustment program?  Newer drivers usually install one.  That's where I would start before upgrading.

               Oh, 64 bit.

I couldn't find a 'driver adjustment' program, and the latest drivers didn't help...

Edit: and I might just be imgining it but the sceen seems to have gotten a lot darker. '<img'>

And it won't let me roll back the drivers....

               Here is your previous version.  You must completely uninstall the current one before you try to do the rollback yourself.  Pretty odd your machine didn't keep track of the replaced driver.  I'd contact the manufacturer about that issue.

Anyways, I can only relate how I make driver adjustment on XP but it may point you in the right direction.
I must use the Windows adjustment because my card/driver is too old for the sweet driver software now available.
Driver adjustment on XP is made by:
Settings>Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>Adapter>List all modes
Then it is just trial and error for me anyways. There are roughly 30 different settings to choose from.  Obviously, I have no 64-bit options but a combination of color mode, screen size and refresh rate can significantly change how different games perform.

But maybe you've already tried all this in your Win7 OS?

You aren't by chance trying to run in Windowed mode are you?

Oh, 64 bit.

Add this to your OS specs above

               I'm not pulling this from my laptop, but I have a dell 14z laptop with NWN installed with windows 64 bit professional which works just fine.

In your NWN.ini file you should have something like this (make sure you window size is less than your desktop resolution).

[Display Options]
Width=1600
Height=1024
BitsPerPixels=32
RefreshRate=60
TexturePack=3
SafeMovie=0
AllowWindowedMode=1
FullScreen=0
UseLargeFont=1

Also I didn't see that you were running NWN as administrator, make sure you do that as well.

               Hello everyone. I have similar problem on my Sony Vaio, although I can't even change the resolution in game. Just no options available - empty list in nwconfig and in in-game options. When I try to change something in nwconfig the resolution says something crazy like 27324x 2134 60 Hz. I updated my drivers and nothing happened.

Sony Vaio VPCEC1S1E/BJ (Vaio VPC-EC Series)
Processor: Intel Core i5 430M  (2,27 GHz)
Graphics Adapter: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
Display: 17.3 inch, 16:9, 1920x1080 pixels
Operating System - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Graphic card drivers: 10-8_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc (name of the downloaded package, yesterday newer version, 10-10, came out)

Game: NWN Diamond 1.69, running as administrator, in compatibility mode with Win XP SP3.
I saw a similar thread on old Bioware forums (crazy resolution values, while having small 800x600  box in the center). But this guy had nVidia graphic card, solution was to set an option "Reduce DVI frequency" off, but I just can't find it in windows 7. Please help.

               Try setting the resolution manually in nwn.ini, I have the lines up above, see if that helps you out at all.  Run it as a window at first.

               Nothing happens when I change it manually. Additionally, when I put your lines into NWN.ini, game doesnt open at all. I hear the sound of opening movies (atari, bioware, wizards of the coast etc.), but window doesn't open. The only thing I can do is terminating process via task manager.

I reinstalled the game and encountered a new problem - when I tried to run the game, i couldnt see characters. Rooms - yes. Eye glows - yes. But no characters. In an intro to HotU i saw flying eye glow xD

               Ok, sounds supiciously to me like a video card issue.

Try setting:

[Display Options]
Width=800
Height=600
BitsPerPixels=32
RefreshRate=60
TexturePack=1
SafeMovie=1
AllowWindowedMode=1
FullScreen=0
UseLargeFont=1

See if that will get you into the main menu and then try playing with advanced graphical settings. Disable environmental mapping, shiny water, texture animations. I'm suspecting it's an issue with your ATI card. Don't know what other post covered your problem with Characters not appearing, but you're not the first with that problem.

               Thread Linkage for the dissapearing character model routine.

http://social.biowar...7/index/4665296

relevant info for you

Update -- Got it working!

I was fiddling around in my driver/CCC settings and noticed that while my Anistropic filtering was set to application controlled there was an option for "Enable high qualigy Anistropic Filtering" when I enabled it the character models worked again!

So if anyone else with an ATI card has issues, give that setting a gander '<img'>

Now i'm off for a nostalgic trip through the Neverwinter Academy '<img'>

               With this setting game still doesn't open. Sounds and nothing else.

I switched off the "application controlled" option, and the models appear again. So this problem is solved... But I fear I won't be able to do anything with the resolution :/

               Just a quick thought - did anyone of you ever try out the Neverwinter Nights configuration utility? When I installed nwn on my son's laptop with an ATi graphics accelerator, there were resolution issues first, as well. After clicking "configure" from the nwn start menu and letting the auto configuration tool do its thing, those issues were solved.

Just a possibility

Greetings
