Installing NWN1 for Win7/vista including patch links for all OS.

               I copied NWN to a new computer (Windows 7) this past week and I can't get nwn.exe to run. It says

I'm sorry, it doesn't look like I'm in the Neverwinter Nights install directory. Please put me back, or re-install Neverwinter Nights.

This copy was installed two PCs ago, with Windows XP. I transferred it to a Vista machine about three years ago and it worked as if I had installed it there. I have used the same directory in each case, as I've used the same directory structure for my games since the 90s.

I ran nwconfig, as I read that it adds registry entries for NWN, but this doesn't seem to be helping.

To be fair, this is not preventing me from running the game, it just means I have to load the game directly...or the toolkit. Still, I would love to make it work properly.

               this thread was just designed to list how to install the game not for trouble shooting install issues so more then half of these posts should be in their own thread

Edit: on  a side note i have not once had issues running the game on any of my computers go figure.
on all  my vista and win 7 machines i need to 1 turn on run as admin 2 run game in compatibility mode for xp sp2 or xp sp3.

               Hello, I've got following problem:

If I run NWN with sound deactivated it runs proberly. If I activate the sound, the game quits running after the loading screen (the one with the eye) comes and the program has finished the CD checkingh process. Ironically the task "nwmain.exe" is still running according to my task manager.

               This really isn't a troubleshooting thread. The people who can help you with these issues don't look at this thread, they look at the forum.

MUCH MUCH better idea to make your own thread to get help with any issues. post in this forum   and if it is something that sounds technical like audio etc then read this first

               No but someone must update this thread with a external link for patches and critical rebuilds, It seem like bioware pulled the patches with the old forums because I can't reach them. i know there is copies somewhere on the nwvault but I can't find them there either.

               umm then why not just end the process through task manager? it wont harm your game. at most it could corrupt your character if indeed you were logged in playig a character when you kill the exe. and please do post issues with the game in their own threads

               its something with your video settings i cant remember what off the top of my head tho.

btw please make a thread so you can get detailed help. your just having a video issue not a issue with installing the game itself.
