*smiling kindly* yet, posibly not.

Hi auggiebltz, unfortunately the info you posted relates to the automatic update button within the game which has not worked for a while now. What you didn't do was.... (and obviously I am making a few guesses but it sounds like you are installing a diamond edition, so just go back and do these two steps, and then continue actually following what I wrote.)

Shia Luck wrote...

2. (Diamond edition disc only) Run the patch on the disk.

3. Go to the patch page and download the correct 1.69 critical rebuild and install it.

The important thing is you have to click the link to the patch page and select the right one for your copy (if it is diamond then choose the HoTU one) , and download it and doubel click it to install it.

I got a more recent copy of the game from Sold out Software.  It installed well enough, and it works, but it gets stuck  on the loading screen whenever there is a cutscene,

I have a windows 7 home premium desktop PC from Hewlett Packard company.
it has an AMD ATHLON ™ II x2 215 proscessor with 2.70 GHZ. It has 3.00 GB and a 64 bit operating system.

Best to make a new thread for this. I have seen some threads on cutscene videos not working but I can't remember the fix for it. Changing something in the .ini file iirc, but.... someone will know  (or search if you havent already). But this will get lost in this thread, so make a new topic *smiling*

               1. Did you change the folder icons to run as admin or the shortcuts?

2. DId you update it from the patch page?

Those two usually cure this issue, but also check

3. Did you update your graphics and sound drivers?

If so...

Find nwnplayer.ini and set safemovie to "1"...

If there is still aproblem, post details of your machine and expecially which graphics card, in a new thread in this forum, and the tech guys will help you.

I tried all that and I still get the compatibility issue pop-up.  Is there anything else that I'd able to do?

Plaxius, you get a compatiblity pop up? Then either you haven't set compatibility or you have installled into Programs (x86) is all I can think of. Put it direct onto C drive.

I managed to get working a little after I posted the message.  Now it's just a matter of connecting to play multiplayer...

There are two [/u]now 3 main ways to put NWN onto a windows 7 machine.

If you wish to install from the disk(s) or from GOG

1. Install game using a custom install. When you are given the path to the install folder, change the path using the browse folder button so that it is not installed in 'programs (x86)', but directly on C drive. Do not make any shortcuts during the install process.
2. (Diamond edition disc only) Run the patch on the disk.

Err.....which patch is this?  I just looked on my disk and I see a "Critical Rebuild" with type "application".  Should I be double clicking on that after I install?  Or should I be copying it into the NWN folder, and THEN double clicking it?

Update:  I looked through the disc directory again, and saw the 1.66 update on my Diamond disc, so I have run that.

4. Open NWN folder and find nwnmain.exe and nwn.exe.
5. Right click on these and select properties. Set them to run with full permissions, as administrator and under compatibility mode windows XP service pack 3.
Good Luck

Not quite sure how to do this - I see something for "Full Control" but I'm not sure that is the same thing?

Also, have you seen this link?

http://nwn.bioware.c...&forum=42&sp=30

Namely, the last post, the user mentions "disabling desktop composition".  First off, what IS desktop composition, and secondly, why does disabiling it help?

Right now, I did pretty much all of these instructions (except running the patch on the Diamond disc - didn't know it was there), and I run alright, but in multiplayer I had multiple freeze/crashes where I had to Ctrl/alt/del to the task manager, end the unresponsive process, and restart NWN.  Super annoying for the other party members...

I'm going to uninstall NWN and reinstall using Shia's instructions, but in the meantime, if anyone else has any useful info on how to get rid of the crashing, I'd greatly appreciate it.  Thanks!

I have windows 7 home edition on PC and windows 7 professional edition on laptop, and I have tried run as administrator, I have tried the compatibility changes for XP sp2, or XP sp3, and almost any combination, and I still can get some game spy servers to work.  Some do and some don't, even on the same account.

               Are they grey? (different version)
Red? (requiring password)
Or they log you out after you created a character? (you need their haks and should've got an error message about it.)

You can check in logs folder for error messages when something goes wrong.

Otherwise you'll have to explain exactly what the problem is with these servers.

Good luck '<img'>

EDIT: (probably better making a new thread for it to, as if it usually works then it isn't an installation issue, no?)

I'm having a very strange problem with installing a recently purchased copy of NWN Gold Edition on my Windows 7 laptop.

The discs are legit, I've got the original manual with the serial numbers and such, and when I click on "setup" for the first disc I can start the installation progress. But for some reason, the install program simply does not recognize the second disc when I put it in, I checked out the disc in the explorer and it seems that Windows views the files on the discs as being in great big .rar folders. Not sure why that is, or if it's significant, but I'm somewhat frustrated.

Any suggestions please?

I will check it next time I play (and crash), and edit this post with the info.

From what I read there is some change to how openGL is being used with newer cards and drivers.

You could try older drivers maybe?

Good Luck! (And if you find a solution pls post it '<img'>)
