               When I was done upgrading to 1.69 through the rebuild, I opened it- it asked for my original NWN key. It wouldn't take it, but it took my HOTU key. Then it asks for the HOTU key and when I enter it, the field clear and it continues to ask for it. If I enter a different key, it tells me it is invalid.

               I finally go the game working on my Windows 7 machine. At first it was moving pretty slow, but I got that fixed somehow (no clue what it was that worked).



My saves from the original campaign won't load though. New OC saves and saves from SOU and HOTU seem to work. Weird

Ummm, I think saves from different game versions won't load, no. If it was from an install without SoU and HoTU then I don't think there is anything you can do, sorry. (I am not 100% sure of that but.... )

Ummm, I think saves from different game versions won't load, no. If it was from an install without SoU and HoTU then I don't think there is anything you can do, sorry. (I am not 100% sure of that but.... )

               If you are talking about saves from before you upgraded then it will be a different version I believe. If not, I'd start a thread about it.

Shia is quite right.  When you upgrade the game, it doesn't upgrade the save(s).  It can't.  If you want to play them you will need to downgrade back to the older version.  IIRC, the character saves ARE compatible across versions.

Now... if all your saves were made using the version you have installed now and some of those don't load, then THAT is a problem.  In that case, somehow the saves may have gotten corrupted.  I have read about that happening to others.

               Query: Has anyone else had a problem in which attempting to install from the Diamond Edition DVD results in the Installshield Wizard showing a progress bar, then a little white box with a "i" in a blue circle and an "OK" button (BUT NOTHING ELSE), and when you click on the "OK" button the install fails to the desktop?                I did all of the above that it says in the first post however when I run the game the NWN logo pops up momentarily and it vanished with the game not being run.\\

3. Go to the patch page and download the correct 1.69 critical rebuild and install it. (Do it! The GOG version is missing a few files as well.)
4. Open NWN folder and find nwnmain.exe and nwn.exe.
5. Right click on these and select properties. Set them to run with full permissions, as administrator and under compatibility mode windows XP service pack 3.

               I can confirm that if you copy the entire folder from an XP install it works. I was running XP SP3 and now run W7 64 bit. I copied the entire NWN folder into my new "Program Files (x86)" folder, and can run the game by double clicking nwmain.exe (even without changing privileges or compatibility). I can't use a shortcut for some reason, so have to browse to the folder and double click but that's no hardship.



Also the Updater doesn't work because it looks in the registry to see your version and there are no registry entries, so only do this if your fully patched up.

               I did exactly what Shia said - version on the Game is 1.66.  Trying to upgrade to the 1.69 gets me the error - You cannot use this patch with your current install of Neverwinter Nights,  If I hit the update key in the game box, it gives me another error:
