SECOND;
I am having a problem with atioglxx.dll.
My game crashes after the eye splash screen and also crashes if I let it scan for my hardware the first time I run the config tool. Event viewer shows the crash related to atioglxx.dll.

Now I already tried a bunch of things.
  • I tried UPX
  • I tried "expand" in the command line and renaming atioglxx.dl_ to atioglxx.dll then putting it in the nwn folder
  • I tried these hotfix drivers: 9.12, 10.1, 10.5, 10.6 and they all crash at the same spot (after the eye splash)
  • I tried updating to the latest directx 9.0c
  • I tried disabling the intro movies in nwn.ini too
  • I also tried everything listed here

I don't know what else to do.  Please please please help me. I have searched google and the old selfhelp forum up and down, I can't find anything to solve my problem. I hate going through these things! And I hate ATI!

But anyway, if anyone has any more help to offer, please do so... I don't know where to go from here and this is one of my favorite purchased games!':bandit:'

Don't forget to teach me how to register my copy.''
Thanks. I hope I gave enough information.

I had trouble with atioglxx.dll until 10.3 ATI drivers version, and 10.5 works fine too (I've about the same specs as you). I'd suggest:

- 1 st to remove any atioglxx.dll from the NWN folder and restore any ini modifications you did

- do a clean install of official ATI drivers.

Clean install means, 1st Uninstall ATI current drivers you have (in safe mode is better), reboot your computer, and install 10.3 or 10.5.

The "clean" install might be necessary, simply installing over is often not enough because of system restoration features that might cancel the update.

About your game registration, the old Bioware site stays there, you don't need to regiser your games here (yet).

good luck =)

That advice was unsubstantial but I tried it anyway and I thank you for trying to help, but it didn't work as I figured it wouldn't.  I  had already tried the 10.5 drivers previously and they didn't work, but I just tried 10.3 and they didn't work either. I'm about ready to turn this game into a coaster. All thanks to  ATI.

I'm not even going to try asking spyre for help on the ATI  forum. He's about as useful as a ... well, let's just say he's not really all that useful.  He will probably give me some rant about how it's something I did and it's not his problem because they don't feel like working on anything. I'm not even going to try.

SisInfo:nwconfig.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x5ed2aed8" referenced memory at "0x00000564". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program.

Faulting application nwmain.exe, version 1.6.9.0, faulting module atioglxx.dll, version 6.14.10.9704, fault address 0x00681bb9.

I know this is a random stab in the dark, but is there any chance of bioware reverted whatever they did in this patch to interact poorly with the ATI  drivers? Everyone unanimously claims that these issues were introduced with the 1.69 patch. But this is the "final" patch so ........... yeah ...... trying my best not to lose my cool at the inadequacy of so called "professionals".

Something is puzzling me about this. Would you look in your windows/system32 directory for atioglxx.dll. If instead you've got atioglxx.dl_ then the problem is that your ati drivers are not installed properly because that is the compressed version of the dll that should be there.

Also have you looked here?

Otherwise I've no idea as I'm running an older radeon hd2600 pro and I've had no probs with 1.69 whatsoever.

Thats a good idea but atioglxx.dll is inside my windows/system32 folder. I use driversweeper to get rid of my old drivers in safe mode so there shouldn't be any leftover files anywhere.
As far as that atioglxx.dl_ is concerned, somebody mentioned on the old forum that using the expand in the windows command line to decompress the .dl_ install file into a .dll file and place it directly into the NWN folder. But that didn't work for me.  That is what I meant by that.

Thanks also for the links but I've checked every post on the old forum up and down. I spent an entire evening looking around at old posts before I finally gave in and posted here about it. There are even more posts on google of people asking about this in other places.

Sorry if I sound grumpy. I don't mean to direct it at anyone here. I  just get really upset whenever my gfx card gives me trouble like this. I  am sooo not a patient person. :innocent:lol

The other thing that puzzled me was the mention of catalyst 10.5. So I checked my install and as I thought I'm on 10.6 which was issued in June this year along with associated drivers.

Not being the greatest tech guy, I'm just wondering. Your graphics  card is between 2 and 3 years old (OK mines older but it runs cooler - only 1/3 of the processors). It's not a hardware fault showing up as a software one is it? Other games that use opengl are ok aren't they?

After this I'd be grasping at straws. The only other thing I could suggest you try is to uninstall nwn and then reinstall it. Try it before adding the patch back in. At least that way you will know for sure that it is the patch that is causing the problem or not as the case may be.

Yeah otherwise opengl works fine for me. The snes and psx emulators I use to play console games on my pc run opengl graphics plugins. It is only NWN and only with patch 1.69. I think I will uninstall NWN and leave it uninstalled. I already searched the AMD forums and people have already brought this to their attention many driver versions ago. They are just going to say it isn't their problem.

Thanks for trying.

You're welcome. I'm just sorry I couldn't be more help. I just hate it when a favourite game no longer works through no fault of your own.

Something to try, just as an experiment (I doubt it will do anything in this case) would be to toss NWShader in the mix and see if it sorts out any driver issues. It's linked against a newer version of OpenGL, but may not actually help too terribly much.

Either way, you can try rolling back to older drivers or see if the card manufacturer provides drivers. I know if I use ATi drivers, I get lower framerates than if I use VisionTek's tweaked drivers for my particular card.

And if you still can't make it work, well... sue ATi for the cost of the game. '<img'>

Morning. I tried nwshader but no dice, however I heard that 10.3 might do the trick. So I am going to try that.  Instead of the AMD drivers I am going to go with my manufacturer. I checked for the heck of it and they have newer drivers. I  am kind of very surprised, but anyway if it works I'll let you know or stop by again to cry and whine about it. LOL=]
If that doesn't work then I can go back to really old drivers. there is 8.6 or I  think I have some 8.7's around here somewhere.
and after that there is always the 3rd party drivers. 1 of them has got to work.

It didn't work.<><>

Sure, I put the file here to save on space in the thread.
http://freetexthost.com/fwlua1gw0h

Oh and I forgot to mention that the game seems to run fine without any drivers so I think we can safely assume that it is the drivers that are the problem. Although at this rate I've tried so many versions that I don't know what else to do. LOL '=]'

From your DXDiag I see you have an AGP card, right?
Did you have this problem support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/CatalystAGPHotfix.aspx and if yes, did you apply the hotfix?

Beside that, I see your current drivers are "Driver Version: 6.14.0010.7060" from "Driver Date/Size: 3/3/2010" and they are not WHQL certified, which means these are not final. I don't know where you get those but they are not the correct ones =)
They should be at least from 5/5/2010 and certified WHQL (that's more important than it seems, trust me)

So, what I suggest is:
- Get official ATI catalyst drivers 10.5 (at least) from AMD support site, and only there, and be sure they are WHQL certified (I have the 10.7 and they work fine)
- Restart you computer in Safe Mode
- do this: Start -> Control Panel -> Add Remove programs, and uninstall all ATI drivers/package you find in the list.
- (its safer to restart in safe mode again at this point)
- Install the drivers you just got, and reboot in normal mode.
- run Dxdiag, and check the display tab, on the right check the drivers version and date and if they are WHQL. Mine are version 6.14.0010.0782 from 05/05/2010 and WHQL. If you see a date like 03/03/2010 then, something went wrong and you still don't have the good ones (And I suppose that's because of some system restoration feature you have that mess with the drivers installation).

good luck

               OK
If there was ever a chance of me not permanently uninstalling this it just totally went out the window when you declared absolutely no experience with ATI and then totally ignored or selectively forgotten every post before this one.
Thanks but I really do not require your unexperienced assistance. I  have requested this thread to be locked, the DXDiag report was deleted and I will not likely return to this forum ever again.

Bye.

Man... you really need to calm down a little. Do you realize I'm trying to help you out of cheer sympathy. I loose my free time to look after your computer's specs and all.... I wonder why i'm doing this >.>
1st, never said I was unexperienced, the contrary actually since I said I have one.... 2nd I didn't ignore your former posts, but your DXdiag contradicts you, and whatever you says or think you have done, DXdiag is the only thing to trust as far as how your windows works (reason why I asked it).
Anyway, since you specifically say so, I won't try to help you further, no problemo...
(btw you can just ignore my posts, no need to get angry blah...)
