I rather dislike the limitations imposed on classes regarding skills.  Just wondering if this is possible, giving all classes all skills as class skills so they're free to choose.  If a mod is out there, or if it's a game file needing editing somewhere (I imagine this has to be stored in a table or something, I just don't know where to go making changes to the classes).

Am guessing the CLS_SKILL_*.2da 's would be a starting point and then add the missing skill IDs to each. I suppose it may be possible to create a generic version that the SKILLS.2da points to for every class (probably less work overall).

You do realize how unbalancing removing the skill discrimination portion of the game would be, don't you? It's wouldn't even be AD&D 3.0 anymore. But to each his own, I guess  ''

Actually it would be simpler. You just need to modify one class' skills say cls_feat_barb.2da and then point all classes into this skill list in classes.2da

Where are these 2das stored in NWN1 plat?  I've got the GOG version and can't seem to find them.

Awesome.  I'm about to test it out.

RE Balance - It's not about balance in my mind, it's about common sense.  D&D gets very cookie cutter.  And in NWN it can be really limiting.  If I want to play a fighter who is aware of his surroundings (which doesn't seem weird or wrong to me at all) it shouldn't be impossible without multiclassing.  Simple example, but fighter not having spot listen and search... when a professional soldier could easily have that skillset... it just seems odd.

I get that it's part of the rules, but those rules were A) Designed to make sure everyone in a pen and paper game has a role and doesn't end up useless and 'B)' with more freedom in mind, because NWN limits the number of classes used, has far fewer options than P&P, etc.  A doesn't apply in any single player game, nor does it truly apply in a lot of multiplayer.  PvP, that sort of thing, it's irrelevant.  And B is just the truth.  NWN is limited by programming, there's no DM at the helm.

And let's not even pretend cross class points make the skill useful.

Anyway, that's my take.  But I come from a love of classless systems and games.  Grew up on Ultima Online and my first pen and paper was Shadowrun.

Also, when editing 2das do they just go into override?

usually, but if you are making a module or PW then all players need this 2DA as well and then adding into a hak is adviced

to add file into hak run NWN/utils/nwhak.exe
