               <begging for...>

Proper attribution of credit is essential in any sort of community endeavor. I'm absolutely positive H will be giving credit where it's due.

For the more timorous, however, simply post your project page ( the one where you will be maintaining it) when you send in your mod (or its link and description or whatever). You know it'll take the Coordinator a couple days to post the results and your project will predate the ABC.

Sound reasonable without being, er, harsh?

<...more credit>

I just want to clear up that I don't mean to accuse H of not being the sort to give credit properly, I know he wouldn't do that, he's a good guy '<img'>

The project page thing is a reasonable work around, I think. I hope it provides some kind of security for those who maybe don't feel so confident about that '<img'>

You know, Adril, you are completely correct. I wonder if that was one of Invisig0th's worries in this case. It certainly was a big oversight in my own, and I appologize for that.

Over the weekend I'll add a note explaining that the builder does not forfeit any rights to their work by submitting it.

I've more or less been referring to my Module as "PHoD - The BLACK BOOK" from the start due to a rabid inability to do anything without plastering PHoD all over it in an irritatingly unnecessary way... Though I've had certain Twisted Sinister Fiends in the film industry rip off my (non-NWN) work before now, more than once, I've never really thought about that sort of thing in the NWN Community and my ceaseless appellation of everything I do with overstated "PHoD"s everywhere was never intended to address such issues.

On the other hand, quite apart from the basic assumption that all the Modules on the ABC submission page would say "TITLE" by "AUTHOR" or some such thing, anyone that concerned about "ownership rights" could include their name in the Title for an extra bit of "evidence"... Like "John Carpenter's - The THING" or whatever.

Because let's be fair, true ownership rights don't exist in any legally enforcible way (so far as I know) for material freely submitted to an Internet site like this. The basic copyright laws worldwide are a pretty murky morass even when it comes to professionally released material.
If someone wants to rip off a NWN Community Module, make a few tweaks and stick it back out under another name, however blatantly, I don't think there's any legal recourse for the original author at all in such a situation, save asking the Vault to delete the vile, spurious, plagiarist entry. We, as a community, simply rely upon our fellows not to be Loathsome Sickening Parasitic W Anchors. Or at least that they won't want to be labelled as such.
And as for trying to defend such work from, say, some Hollywood studio who stumbled across it, liked the plot and decided to thieve it, you've got no chance unless you've got millions of dollars and a lawyer as slimy as the ones they've got.

In other words, too much concern about such a thing is probably both a tad futile and a waste of time, however much it may disturb us personally as creative individuals... There is a very good reason that I have never submitted a Module to the Community before (save the odd little Demo for a Hak).
My "DEMONESS TALES" are based upon stories I've been writing in comic strip form for decades, some of the leading characters including the "Demoness" herself, cluttering up my home in nine foot tall fibreglass and latex glory just to prove how fixated I am - (a house filled with life-size monsters is a constant hazard to model makers, I might add, or maybe just the mad ones).
The series means so much to me personally, the characters, storylines and so forth, that I just won't take the risk of having the material ripped off and messed with by anyone by putting the Modules on the Vault. (Growls hostile fashion at the film industry again).
The ABC is the perfect vehicle for me to do something quick, silly and of no overwhelming importance. (NOT that I'd want anyone messing round with my Module without my permission, naturally).
If anyone has Modules, however proud they are of them, that they don't want to run the risk of being usurped in some way, don't submit them to the Internet, simple as that. Anything that gets posted, anywhere, is under some potential threat of somebody doing something with it we won't like. It's like getting in the ocean. Most sharks ignore you. Just be aware there may just be one who doesn't.

Er... what sort of Artist? If you want someone who knows how to apply pencils and pens to a piece of paper, I'm happy to help out. If you want something digital I might still be able to help though I'm sure there's better than me at that lurking around...

If you have a problem and nobody else can help (and if you really can't find anyone better), then maybe you can hire...
A shabby and deluded Hyena Object.

If you haven't already got someone else, just e-mail me with what you need/want and I'll see if it's within my artistic remit. If it is, I'll happily fall upon it and give it a good kicking.

I'd be willing to take a crack at this logo you need too. I work in both traditional and digital media. All I'd need to know is what you have in mind graphically.

               Excellent!

For reference you can see the Group and even join if you are so inclined.

To get this started I threw together some incredibly lame images.
'Image
'Image

What I learned in this process:
  • image shall be 200x200 pixels
  • using the full title in the image is redundant since the title always shows up anyway.
  • my typography skills are not adequate to make "ABC" look interesting as a logo
  • a hand illustrated background would look much better than a photo or screenshot
I put a placeholder image on the group. But I hate it. A nicer image would be fantastic. I wonder if PHoD would be interested in creating an image in pencils, that Adril could work with. Or whatever. All contributions are welcome, and you are all free to upload your work to the group gallery if you are so inclined. Any member of the group can upload photos to it. And please credit yourself if you do so.

PLUSH SHAMBOLIC LUNATIC HYENA of DOOM foams at the mouth and endeavours to post rubbish images in the wrong place...

'Image

Here, again, is the PHoD ABC Dragon which is explained over on the Group whatsit thing. Um... Not much to say really. Henesua, feel free to use it or laugh derisively at it and throw it away. Whichever gives you the greater moral satisfaction and/or a cosy, warm feeling in your toes.

Well, just to make it more interesting, I thought I'd enter a picture/logo/whatever for the mini compo. Well someones got to make something rubbish, don't they? I gave myself a little brief on this. I figured that as it's for the ABC, I had to include those letters prominently. I then figured that as the adventures are to be built in nwn I better use a couple of screenshots in the picture as well. Finally I figured that as nwn is primarily a game built around the Dungeons and Dragons ruleset I ought to at least include a nod towards that. This is what I ended up with -

'Image

As you can see, the letters ABC are there as are a couple of screenies. If you look closely, the bottom one is set in a dungeon/cave and look closer still to see the transparent outline of a classical dragon. Done mostly in photoshop. There were six layers in all before they were merged.

Hope you like and don't fall about too much at its rubbishness ('^_^').

I dig it. Since PHoD was the first to strike, I'm going to use their work for the ABC logo.

I also appreciate that we received 3 contributions so quickly.

Thank you to

I have an idea for the Adventure Building Challenge that I would like to run by people.

Create a quest for an existing module.
We would all be limited to the same module, and would have to build a quest, but would otherwise be unrestricted.

I'm thinking that this would be interesting if a PW would donate a working build of their module that we could use for the challenge. The reason I thought of this is because someone PM'd me with a similar idea for their own module. They had been working on a module that needed more quests in it. So anyway, let me know what you think of it.

Thought I would pop my head in the door here and say that although I'm "too late to the party" to submit anything in the February challenge, I am definitely going to try my hand at whipping something up for the March challenge. I'm hoping the thematic restriction will really spur me into creating something. I've been running DMed campaigns for years, and have always said I would build a singleplayer module, yet never had. Hopefully that will change come the end of March!

(Plus Project Q etc. really, really deserve to see some major use in modules. I use Q and many of the recent-years tilesets and other content released by people on these forums in my DMed campaigns, and its a crime that not more people experience and appreciate these fantastic efforts on the part of people around here. Cheers and huge thanks as always to all of you who make such things.)
