What music to use, and not to use
« on: November 26, 2012, 08:47:06 pm »

Seeing as I've seen it done a lot, I'd like opinions on something.

Is it right to use custom music for NWN modules that the artist hasn't specifically given permission to the person to use, even if it is freely distributed?

There are a literal ton of music files out there that are great for NWN, and most are freely distributed, or even really cheap. And though no one is making money off of it is it right to make them into BMU's and throw them out to be downloaded or does it just make others feel as dirty as it does me? Does it even matter when anything can be found on YouTube?

Feelings?

It depends on the license. I make sure anything I use is under the Creative Commons licenses that allow for non-commercial use. My compilation of CC licensed sound is here: http://nwvault.ign.c...s.Detail&id=878

As long as it's under Creative Commons, you should be allowed to use it. All you're doing is redistributing it.
