Where in the toolset are the standard summons creatures?
« on: July 15, 2012, 02:49:07 pm »

I am sure I will kick myself because it's likely right in front of my nose, but where in the toolset are the standard creatures that appear as summons?

For instance, if I want to look at the creature entry for the summoned red slaad (resref
nw_s_slaadred
), alhoon (
x2_s_lich_24
), etc., can I pull up the creature info for them? It seems like the UTC files are in the game BIFs as they are for other standard creatures, but I am not seeing them in the Creatures palette in the toolset.

BTW, just to clarify, I am not asking about how to change which creature is summoned by a spell or script or how to add custom summons/animal companions/familiars to a module. I see lots of good info on those topics, but I am just trying to find the standard summoned creatures in the toolset and I'm not seeing where they are.

They're not actually listed in the toolset palette.

You might be able to use NWN Explorer to find those in the game bifs and export them, then add them back in via a hak or maybe just copying into the nwn/modules/temp0 folder when you have your module open (then right-click and refresh palette on the monster palette).  Not sure it it'd work or not...not something I've ever tried myself.

From my quick look, I will have to say that they are simply just not on the standard palette. (Already stated by AD)

Keep in mind that the palette does not dictate what the game engine has acccess to.   It only dictates what show up in the palettes for the toolset and DM client.

this override http://nwvault.ign.c...d=68829&id=7711 will let you see them (but still have to extract from nwn data to modify)

Thank you guys. Too bad these creatures aren't part of the standard palette. Many of the animal companions and familiars serve as examples of incrementally increased create power.

But, that override did the trick. And, at least I don't feel like such a dunce for paging through the palette for ten minutes and not spotting anything. ;-)

I think its a good idea to remove those critters from your override when you do a final build. Otherwise I think they'll be visible in the palette for DMs

I'm not positive on this, as my method was slightly different than yours.

I stuck all of the extracted blueprints in a development HAK which gets removed when the module is built prior to play.
