Pallett Listings Missing
« on: February 21, 2012, 11:06:15 pm »

Oddly, some of our item pallett listings are missing while in game as a dm but not inside the toolset. I've tried refreshing but the issue keeps reappearing later. Really odd and annoying because it's happening to areas that contain items DMs need. As an aside we use CEP and PRC.

It's been awhile since this question came up but I think it has to do with DMs using a different palette - STRREF datatypes in your palette itp - vs. STRING datatypes in your palette itp file.

quote by CID-78

As well, the ID entry must be unique for palettes. the folders must be a .tlk entry and not a string or it will not show up in the DM client.

How would I actually go about fixing that?

Sorry Jenna, I do not know what is required to create a proper DM palette as I've only ever dealt in making modifications to NWN for single player adventures.

The old DLA Adventures website that had all the tutorials for creating such custom palettes is no more - none of the links I've found in the Omnibus resource work in regards to your question.

Perhaps someone with a better understanding will notice the thread and respond.

Gather a list of words that are missing
You will have to get the GFFEditor and the .itp file and go through and change the words to numbers pointing to custom tlk file. I also noticed if you list item does not have anything in it then it will not show up either, did a test where I had mounts (empty) did not show up for my DM then add a creature under that category and it showed up in game for the dm. Hope this helps some.

I'm still confused... this worked fine like a week ago. I imported items by erf or made them in the toolset and they stayed just fine. Not sure what made that change and now it's erasing everything I do that involves items. Sometimes opening the module in the toolset means the items are there, sometimes not... it's happening there now too.

Yep.... I have items in custom 4 and I can't get it to show up as a DM at all. Nor will any of the new items added to tutorial show, but old ones do. And.... none of my other new items in other categories are showing at all either. I did delete a few items out of the pallette recently but I have no clue why that should make other items not show up after being created or imported.

Might be a 2da / erf  renumbering issue I think or have you gotten near the DM pallete limit? I not to sure on this one, without looking at a simple base module of it and/or itp file. I hope some more experts pop on.

Oh I figured it out. A few missing zep_ items from CEP were deleted and needed to stay there forever. Adding them back didn't fix it oddly...

Getting pretty frustrated with this. We can't summon unqiue (or some cep) monsters in game as a dm, and new items do not show up on the pallette. Rolled back to some older modules and the same happens. Not sure what to do to make it workable anymore.

You are certain of course there's nothing in your override that could conflict? Not sure if this helps, but worth a shot.

The file that stores the information for the Item palette is packed into the module file, so there is no way the override folder could effect it.

You will need to check your hak's to make sure non of then have a file by the name itempalcus.itp in them.

Also if you are using a custom skelton palette. File: itempal.itp you will want to make sure that if any of the leaf nodes have a TYPE field, that is equal to 2. If the type field is non exsistant that is also OK.

oops, I see now. I mistakenly thought the problem was models not showing up, instead of palette entries. Ignore me. '<img'>

Arg.. I just ran into a similar problem with my creature palette. So the deal with the DM Client versus the Toolset is that the DM client must read from a TLK instead of use a String for a palette name? Thats absurd. I'll see if going through the tedium of adjusting that will solve my problem.

So thanks to the information above I have fixed this issue.

I am using STRREFs to identify palette nodes.
I have also discovered that TYPE 1 is apparently hidden in the Toolset as well as the DM Client.
and TYPE 2 is explicitly shown
Is there a TYPE which is hidden in the DM Client, but shown in the Toolset?

[edit: interesting I found this:
