Beginning movie
« on: December 31, 2011, 11:27:25 pm »

Okay, need some help. I made a movie to play at the beginning of my module. When I start my module, the game gets stuck on the loading screen for the first area and I can hear the music from my movie playing. If I hit ESC, the music stops and then the first area fully loads.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!':wizard:'

EDIT: I have tried numerous things to get this working. I made a brand new module and put the beginning movie in it. It works perfectly. In looking at the OC modules I noticed that they had the Prelude as its own module. I thought perhaps that my module may be too big for the moview to play correctly so I made a new module and imported the first are into it. The same thing happens (stuck on load screen, I can hear music from the movie playing). This time I tried letting the movie play all the way through to see if it would go to the first area after it finished, and it does. It seems like that the video won't play for some reason but the audio does. I just can't figure out why it won't show the video. I'd like to get this working because I put a lot of effort on the beginning movie.

Seems there is no known solution to this problem? This is sad. I am experiencing the same problem with my end-movie (no beginning-movie yet, probably the same problem there). I get the impression that the resolution is important as it changes wether or not the standard ending movie is played if I put that in. Maybe it's a graphic card's problem, too?

               <checking his...>

From the Omnibus:

The main thing I've found that would cause the movie not to work is the resolution of the bik is not 800x600.
Here are the settings I use:
Compress data to a rate: 400000
Input settings:
Force to: Width:800 Width:800
Adjust to: Height:600 Height:600
Compress Audio:
Select 16-bit/mono
Everything else is default or left blank.
Hopefully this will help.
I'm not sure why it isn't showing up when you select the module advanced properties though, any file named as a *.bik should show up there.
However, the file name must be short. I'm not exactly sure on the maximum length, but I wouldn't go more than 16 characters. I know 12 character names work.

Thank you Rolo Kipp. I had it at 800x600, but the data rate of 400000 might have been important. It is playing now, but still only if the game's resolution is set to 800x600 (or at least not if it is set to 1920x1080). And I can't see a scripting function which manages the game's resolution. The videos are supposed to play at every resolution of the game just as the Into-Logos (which are played smaller, but played), aren't they? I'm using the NWN Collection and an NVidea 9800GT graphics card, if that helps. Maybe I should try older drivers again that helped with other problems in the past.
