Ultra n00b reporting...
« on: July 30, 2011, 10:31:46 pm »

So I picked up Neverwinter Nights today (or rather got it delivered) because I wanted to use the toolset and have a crack at making some fun game mods. Long term, who knows where it can go - to Bioware if I'm lucky enough. Short term, hello community and I'm sorry in advance for asking any stupid questions, not understanding basic concepts and generally being a bit odd.
Should probably add I'm relatively new to RPG's as Mass Effect was my first. Been hooked ever since though and have played everything since then by Bioware, Fallout adn the like but I want to go back to the D&D roots so I can kind of grasp it properly.
Sorry for rambling, but basically. Hello.

               Hello,
  Welcome to the community.

In getting started with the toolset, I would  advise you to download one of the community made manuals.

NWN HoTU Toolset Manual by Dezmodian
The Guide to Building Volume I – The Aurora Toolset Manual by The Builders Project

Best of luck,
L8

Thanks for the reply - I'll get reading through them and then post what I'm up to and generally lurk around the forums. I have loads of ideas for stories, as I'm sure everyone does, I'm just trying to implement them.
Also, if anybody at all needs someone who adores writing to edit, proof-read or write for them (or with them) I'd love to do that.
Cheers,
Heresy.

Hi True, and welcome aboard/ '<img'>

I would say I'd like a hand with proof reading for the second chapter of my project, but I haven't even started the writing side yet, which would suggest that maybe I could use you to help with the writing too. Only problem with that is you'd have to be familiar with the mythology. Why don't you have a play of chapter one (link in my sig) and let me know what you think?

Regards,
Quillmaster.

               Hey Quill,
I'd love to get involved and I'll get to downloading and brushing up on your lore ASAP. Cheers for the inclusion and I'll be in touch.

Welcome.  Your name seems a bit odd in the sense that those are contradictory concepts.  Though I suppose that's the point.

Thank you for your welcome ffbj, and in response to the point about about my moniker; heresy is only a lie to those who hold dogmatic beliefs. For example Galileo saying that the Earth wasn't the centre of the universe was considered Heresy but of course, was in fact true. As an atheist and a skeptic I use my name as a sign of my promotion and belief that saying truth despite it's heretical appearance to some others is important. But now I need to know the story behind your name!
Also, Axe - thanks for the heads up...

I'm not sure but, I think it depends on how far you sail.

Being a literature nerd, I'd say heresy means closer to defying what is commonly held as truth rather than defying what is actually true. Thus heresy, typically, is truth - or gibberish.

Bit of a meaningless post, I know. But I was actually attracted by the prospect of learning the story behind Axe's name...

_six you very neatly and succinctly summed up what I meant in reply. Thank you for countering my occasional verbosity :S

Also, any reply as to the nature of a murderer's moniker would be seconded by me. Immediately.

maybe he just chop so much wood that he has broken his share of axes. or he might just be a farmer.

all you really need to know is that he is the guy you should ask if you want help with scripting. I usually help alot in that field also but he isn't afraid of giving you the script instead of just point you in the right direction.

One point here.  If you want a script when you ask for help make sure you ask for a script.   If not you may get an answer like the one CID-78 made not too long ago.   The answer was a simple, single "yes".

The answer did correctly and acuratly answers the OP question.

There are many people on the forums that enjoy scripting there own solutions,  For them it is better to just give pointers.

Yeah I suppose you can site examples where what was once perceived as heretical views have indeed turned out to be true. Of course no one has cornered the market on truth, even the heretics.

When I see Axe's name I always think of a nursery rhyme we learned in school:
'Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks.
When she had seen what she had done.
She gave her father forty-one.'

My name comes from old pnp gaming.  We would grab this minature of a red mage casting a fireball, as a tag along npc.  Someone dubbed him fireball jackson. I added fred to personalize him thus:
Fred 'Fireball' Jackson.  Since that was too much trouble to write and I don't like CAPS I made it into:
