Is it possible to use the toolset on a mac?

               No. There is no toolset version for the Mac.

               If you can run the Windows and not Mac version of the game with an emulator, you can. There were a few attepmts at an actual Mac toolset that allow some building features, but the projects were never finished.

               I use Parallels PC emulator on my Mac and the toolset works just fine.
