Hey You Wanderer fans...
« on: September 17, 2011, 05:15:58 am »

So I understand a lot of you folks like this mod, so sureley somebody will ahve the answer to this.

Early in the game there seems to be a sudden problem where the town guards go on a killing spree.

Does anyone know a resolution to this?

Thanks.

               The Wanderer (v) CEP Version
The Wanderer (FINAL v)
I suppose that's what you are refering to, Macky Mac?
I can't believe those Mac guys... '<img'>
I believe I had some very, very, very heavy faction problems with the CEP version all along. (With and without my override folder.)
To the point I was unable to finish the module, if I recall right. That bad...
One suggestion, try playing without your override folder just once. But... ':crying:'
Otherwise, it sounds like deep doo-doo. Sorry it 'smells' like deep doo-doo already.
Now, if my memory serves me right, for a change, I remember some town guards "going on a killing spree" apparently for no reason, only it might make more sense later... or something like that. I also had the feelings something wasn't right here.
Are these guards red as foes?

Hmm I too remember that faction issue.
Two other things that could help you:
- Do you have tony k AI installed? If so try deinstalling.
- Updating the module with ceppatch169(requires restarting the module) or merging haks(aforementioned with the top one from the module - ceppatch168 ck or something like that)

Mentioning it, sometimes you need to restart the module anyway for the best results. I think that when you first play the module, it builds itself from the haks. Once when I played Aielund I had a problem - my hak was outdated and the game was crashing, but when I downloaded the newest version of the hak it did not help. I had to restart the mod. And everything went fine, the princess rescued, planet(nation) saved, father-in-law slaughtered.

I tried with no Tony K's AI (No override)
No dice.
Yeap, maybe restarting the serie brand new, without TK...

Thanks guys I will try those solutions and see what happens. Fortunately, this happens early on in the game so restarting is not much of a set back.

These guards are meant to kill someone. If it's only this that bothers you, you might be on the right track.
Duno really...
Good luck, quite a very ticklish module in my opinion. Not one to fool around too much with...
Don't play roguy, but carefully.
The only module I had to give up. But I didn't want to.

They killed more than someone. In fact I went through it twice to see if it would happen again.

The first time they killed a commoner and every animal they could find. Nobody was hostile towards me.

The second time they waited till the merchants came. My druid said "wtf dudes! I'm trying to trade over here!" They also killed a cow and a kitten.

I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to happen.

The only game I quit that I really wanted to play is Agrenost. I played part way through, but it was kinda buggy. When the more recent version came out I started that one but then it wouldn't run. It always freezes after my char. wakes up in the beginning and goes upstairs for the first time. Shame, that was a very beautiful and interesting mod. :/

Anyway I'll be trying your suggestions later. Thanks again '<img'>

Well, 'looks like this module's got a serious faction problem. That's too bad, and even kind of odd, after such a major "CEP reshapping" effort...

A very significant "veteran" feeling. Never to be taken lightly, as it means you're probably 99% right.
You've got that NWN nose, the one that can smell the most concealed roguy bug, even trying to hide in plain sight.
True seeing, in real life. Not bad!
Life is magical, and NWN only a copy.
One of the things I like about gaming, using senses, which are a bit left aside in real life, as the main ones.
A second life.

Possible solutions of the Agrenost problem:
- installing latest version of the module and haks
- installing patch 1.69 if you haven't already
- installing latest driver for your graphic card
- setting game graphic settings lowest possible(especially turning off shinning water)
- removing override
- trying at least 3 times

Definitely not supposed to happen, but it can as I recall, in one of either two ways:
1. You have any stuff in your override folder (I never identified exactly what caused it, but it was something that was common to a few override files)
2. You attacked the guards or killed a villager after stealing from them - there was a cooldown period on this, so as long as you did not follow it up and just ran away, it would reset. But if you got in too deep, it couldn't be undone.

If you do find a third cause, let me know - I can at least post a warning on the mod page.
