Rise of the Steam Pirates.
« on: September 26, 2010, 06:34:35 am »

Based on a continent of my own making (not yet named) a peaceful land. Although not joined as one, the many regions are friendly to each other. But world peace was not to last forever. Coming to our land, upon flying ships, the steam pirates have attacked in a great mass. The world was caught unaware, the empire grew fast. It enslaved much of our world. The regions who aren't in control of the steam pirates are either under great siege or have fallen into civil war.

The peacemakers of the world, are considered "God's Army".  With the coming of the steam pirates they fled to the mountains and currently reside with the Dwarves. A secret rebelion who remain hidden from their enemies and commonors, plot to slowly bring them down. To find them, and become one of their numbers require a great deal of trust.

The Story begins in a village surrounded by a forest, called Aravale. It has somehow escaped knews of the steam pirates. But soon they shall attack and capture you. You shall have to escape, and find the rebelion. You alone will decide the fate of the entire world.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an announcement, but not the completation. It is no where near finished, I simply would like feedback. I've done the Prelude, which will be part of the download when Chapter 1 comes out. What do you think of the story?

Chapter 1 will require the player to follow the one story branch. (That will have differernt twist depending on his race)

Chapter 2 will require the player to follow the one story branch. (That will have differernt twist depending on his race) but at the end a "story-split" will occur, in which the hero must chose if he shall join the Steam Pirates, God's Army, or remain with the rebelion.

Chapter 3: Will have 3 story branches to follow, depending on how Chapter 2 ended
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There will definitely be 4 chapters, but I'm thinking of making more. Perhaps finish the man story in chapter 4, then something related to the world, following the footsteps of the previous character... but a new main plot? I don't really intend to use hakpaks, do any of you feel that is required for a good module? Suggestions and feedback appreciated.

Races allowed to play will be: Half-Orc, Half-Elf and Human. I've chosen these races because no mater what your father is a human. However, depending on your race, you will either have an Orc mother, Elf mother or a human mother. You'll be able to meet all three later into the game, but your race decides your relationship with them.

Yes, Female and Males will be allowed, and romances: yes.

classes supported: Fighter, Rogue, Paladin (You'll have to end uo joining God's Army) and Barbarian.

Can I ask why the mother is the 'other-race' parent? I've always kind of thought of most half-orcs as 'war-babies' or you know, the product of an unwanted union? Orcs being portrayed generally as 'ugly, brutish sorts' I kinda find it hard to imagine a group of say, male human mercenaries taking their pleasure of those orc females left after a raid? But maybe that's just me. So I'm curious, why the female other-race in this scenario?

I always found it weird Half-Orcs exist in the first place haha. However, I've offered an explanation in game.

In Prelude the father says: Ah, here's a story I've been avoiding. You are a half-orc, there's no hiding that. You know what that means don't you?

Main Character: My mother was an Orc.

Jim: Exactly. How? You may ask, did I do such a deed? Orcs and Humans hold an indefinite hatred against each other. The answer is fate. We fell in love, but could not remain together. I know nothing else about your mother, I am sorry <FirstName> you shall have to search for answers else where.

-----------------------------------------------

I chose female for the other race, because of reasons I can't reveal without revealing the whole game.

This series will have a "Fraction System" that will allow the PC to join a fraction that will effect how people treat him, give him side quest opportunities and more. There will be 4 fractions to chose from in chapter 1

Priest of Fayri

Guard

Fighter's Guild

Thieves' guild

More fractions may be made available in chapter 2.

               Simomate,

This sounds interesting. Just note that the word you're looking for there is 'faction' (as in, a group) not 'fraction' (as in the number).

But I'll be keeping an eye on this. '<img'>

So you assume humans would find orcs too ugly to bother while orcs would be attracted to female humans? Quite an anthropocentristic view, don't you think? Besides, if these brute mercenaries already cross one line, why not another? I don't think physical attraction plays a big part in atrocious crimes like these. Actually, considering the way orcs are generally portrayed in D&D, I have no problem imagining that the inhibition level for such deeds would be quite low. In the eyes of the human mercenaries it would just be another way to demonstrate power and hate, to further humiliate a foe they declare as inferior. And they'd probably think nothing of it precisely because orcs are stigmatized as ugly, primitive and evil, so it can't be evil to bash their heads in and **** their women, right...? After all, it's not as if they're harming innocent, beautiful human women.

Just take a look at human history and warfare, the evil that men do.

I'd like to add: That's not how I see orcs. Most modules have a differernt preception of the many monsters and humanoids.

There are a few "overrides ad-ons" around that make orcs looking very scary. Amazing.

Check my list in my signature if you find the time.

okay so its been a while, I lost the files and all but I decided to restart it. Soon I should post up the Prelude for testing purpose. So if people want to they can help locate all the bugs/typos etc. I'm almost finished it, it just needs a lot of polishing.
