Help Finding a Module
« on: September 15, 2010, 12:06:06 am »

Before I start in on the description, I have to give fair warning. There will be spoilers for the module in here because, unfortunately, all I remember is the ending. That said, maybe what I write here will trigger someone's memory...

From what I remember, the module was all about infiltrating and, eventually overthrowing the master of a thieves guild. Unfortunately, I don't remember more than that outside of the ending, which is where the spoilers come into play. Along the way, you pick up a couple of henchmen (one of them female and, if I remember right, romancable but I can't find this module on the "romance list") who are out to help you on your quest. Along the way you develop relationships and boost your skills/status in the guild which then leads to the ending: Overthrowing the guild master. I specificially remember that, once you have killed the old master, you're presented with the option to either assume the role yourself, nominate your henchmen (the afrore mentioned female [romancable?] one) or completely dissolve the guild.

I know this is vague, but I'm hoping it sparks someone elses memory so I can find this module. It was pretty fun and I'm dying to revisit it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Chris

I don't think I've played such a module but if there's a chance you'd recognize it by its name, could it be one of the rogue / thieves' guild modules mentioned in this thread?

               Hey Olivier,

Thanks for the link. I've been through all of those modules (matter of fact, I'm playing through The Aielund Saga right now) and, sadly, no luck. I've also searched all through the Vault (HoF, top rated, Rogue class, Rogue in the title, etc), hoping that I'd remember more or that the title of the module would jump out at me but no luck there, either. I could have sworn that there was a list of Rogue-specific modules on the Vault that was similar to the Romance list, but I've been unable to find it.

At this point, I fear it might be a lost cause until (or, rather, if) I can remember more about the module. I appreciate the help!

Do you remember the names of any of the characters? Of any taverns? Anything that might make our search that little bit easier? I don't want you to go crazy because of this!

Could you describe the Hide out of the guild? Sewers... It kind of rings 2 or 3 of my bells. Overthrowing is almost a daytime rogue occupation you know. But I'm very visual, so...

@melissah: I wish I could remember names or locations but, try as I might, I keep drawing blanks. This was one of those modules I happened to stumble across by sheer happenstance, and forgot to bookmark it.

@jmlzemaggo: I've actually been using the layout of the guild as part of my searching (ie: checking them all out in the toolset). I remember it pretty well, so here's a bit of a description of it.

For starters, it's located down in the basement of a building (house/inn/tavern...) and you start out in the area by walking down a short flight of stairs which leads to a small hallway. At the opening of the hallway there's a large room with plenty of rogues training on combat dummies. If I remember right, NPC rogues are practicing their hide/sneak attack skills.

To the left of the area with the combat dummies, the room continues on to a more common area with a merchant, some rogues milling around and 3 doors (2 of them on the far left wall and one on the right wall). The top-left door leads to a room full of chests where you can practice your lockpicking skills, and the bottomleft door leads to another practice room. I'm not 100% on this, but I believe that door takes you to a room filled with traps so you can practice disarming them. The door on the bottom-right wall leads you into a small room where the guild master and a couple of his lackeys are. That's pretty much all there is to the guild.

If it helps, I'm pretty sure I remember a quest that I'm fairly certain was from this module. It involves you saving a shop owner who is sympathetic to the "good guild" from being shaken down by thugs from the guild you're trying to overthrow. I also remember that you have to prove your worth to the guild master that you're trying to overthrow. He demands a test of your skill in the training rooms of the guild before he'll grand you admission (similar to the academy in the original NWN campaign, before you can meet Aribeth).

One other thing that came to me was the fact that your father was somehow involved in this. During the module, you start to uncover clues about the "evil guild" and their involvement in his murder. I can't remember if he was once the former leader of said guild and the present master had him killed to take over or not, but it's something along those lines.

I hope this helps a bit. I get the feeling that the name of the module is right at the tip of my tongue, but I simply can't remember it. Thanks again for all the help! I'm going to keep looking, if I have to go through every module listed on the Vault, one by one... '<img'>

               Hi!

Not 100% sure, but have you looked at "The Rogues of Quinn" by Taliesin?

               Hi Terishia!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd already checked out the Quinn series (even the 4th one by Steve Disque) and I almost thought it was part 3, but no luck there. I'm starting to think I stumbled across it in the comments of another rogue module, so that's where my search is leading me.

Thanks again for all the help, everyone!

You sure it isn't Guild War:

An original adventure designed for novice Rogues. Two rival rogue guilds vie for control of the twin city area. Join the Saskan Guild, do guild business, burglarize the nobility, court a romance, and maybe solve legendary quests.

G.O.A.T.    ? No

What level was that 12? 15?

If you do find it, let me know!  Sounds like it would be a fun module to play.

mmmhhh...it wasn't a mod specifically tailored for rogues but it remembers me one of the quest of Bloodright: The blood royal.

Oops correct - darn memory. 32 G of mods and haks - I should remember to go to the vault.

I still think this is the mod the OP is thinking of; especially in light of later comments.

Also for the rest of you - play it. Worth every second.
