« on: July 26, 2010, 02:26:07 am »

Edited (To remove my opinion out of the post 100%)

Can you tell us (briefly) what your favorite module is and why?

Yes you can list multiples if they all fell into the awesome category...

Thanks..

My absolute favorite? Can I count Almraiven and Shadewood by Fester Pot as one?

Why? I like story 1st. I like playing Wizards. I like playing Necromancers. I like playing my characters at low levels. It is how I like role playing a Wizard, with studying books, using reagents for spells and potions, the laboratory is awesome. The scenery/atmosphere is spot on as well. From the city of Almraiven to the swamps of Shadewood.

I can't wait for part 3!

(Some other favorites are: Prophet series by Baldecaran, Saleron's Gambit series by Tiberius209, Crimson Tides of Tethyr by Alazander, Threat of Dreams by Chris "GhostFactory" Thorton, and Aielund Saga by Savant)

apologies for my bad behavior in this post.  behavior removed.

ADWR is my fave ever.  so much so that I don't like other modules so much anymore.  I found it better than the original campaign.  I like it better than my own modules. lmao

Thanks for support, kookoo.  But seriously, it's not worth the blood pressure spike, dude.

Discarding the fact that the members of the review guild are all long time players and that so too are the community members that vote and comment on the mod pages on the Vault, Genysis has every right to start a thread that's basically been done many times before.  He certainly doesn't have to read the reviews if he finds them too much trouble.  He also has every right to not read the module comments or look over the voting scores.

Of course, whether the results will be somehow different from every other favorite module thread that I've seen, I have my doubts.

I want to hear it straight from the horses (players) mouth, and don't bother discussing or recommending a module you made, that's just wrong...  (Your art speaks for itself)

You do realize those would be players who are still supporting this game making those reviews, right? They aren't people paid for a performance or anything like that.

That said, I can't recommend A Dance With Rogues enough at all. It is very adult though, but the first chapter especially is just grand in how you get this city to explore, rob and solve quests in. And there are so many hidden encounters.

A Dance w/ Rogues and the Aielund Saga. And it's based entirely on my mood which I prefer.

I have played 20-30 top mods.

Best:
Aielund Saga.
This is the only MOD I rated a 10 on the Vault (unlike most that seem to rate everything 10).
Truly epic sweep, from 1st level to well into epic levels.
Epic battlefield action.
Story line takes you places you never expected.
etc, etc ....
If I could only play one mod[series], this would be the one.

My runner Up:
Prophet series by Baldecaran.
This has awesome story and beautiful visuals.
Still waiting on the final part of this series (in progress) and there is nothing I want to play more than the finale.

As much I agree with all of you on your choices, I don't think there is one best module around, depending on the weather and the player.
NWN wouldn't be my favorite game without, (alphabetical order ':bandit:'):

A Dance with Rogues, 1 & 2 (adults '')
Almraiven & its sequel, Shadewood, known as The Auren Series, by Fester Pot
Caereena - Krakona Rising
Citadel
Kunoichi (French & english versions)
Le Batard de Kosigan (French & english versions)
Orcs 1 & 2, The Breach (French & english versions)
Prophet, 1 to... 4  <>
Sanctum of the Archmage 1 to... 3
Tales of Arterra serie, by Kevin Chan aka toa_lost
The Aielund Saga, 1 to 4(I,II,III) (Vault link)

Now... there is that one guy who absolutely changed my way of seeing this game, like if he was using it for some other purposes:
StefanGagne
and his "the HeX coda 01 & 02"
I never replayed it. All I know this is the one I have always been looking for.

If one would force me to choose only one, not to mention the ones I forgot, '<img'>, I would choose NWN. 'cause I'm not finished seeing every author's guts, and every girl and guy behind.

NWN is such a magical tool for anyone of us to access her or his very god self. Since gods we all are, once we try.
Game on!

There are a lot of really good mods, but my three personal favorites (counting series rather than individual module chapters) would probably have to be:
  • The Aielund Saga by Savant
  • Lords of Darkness by Fantus
  • The Auren Series by Fester Pot (Almraiven/Shadewood)

Not only are there a lot of really good modules out there but IMO also a great number of excellent, stunning, nearly perfect modules. It would be really hard to make a choice from them.

However, if I was asked to list two of my personal all-time favorite NWN works, I'd probably go with the Prophet Series by Baldecaran and Excrucio Eternum by Stefan Gagne.

Great olivier, now you're forcing me to play Excrucio Eternum again... even if I'm sure you're wrong as always, it couldn't be better than the HeX coda.
Only... I wanna take a good look at this new Sanctum of the Archmage before anything else.
Actually, if my memory serves me right, which would be a first, you might be the one who told me about Gagne's stuff...
And now I feel terrible. 'Image

Hey, I just said it's my PERSONAL favorite, I didn't say it's better than heX coda. Your choice what you make of that, don't blame me.

Maybe it's because I feel more at home in a desolate asylum than with a gang of cyberpunk geeks. ''

After much pondering, I would have to say Fester Pot's Almraiven/Shadewood.  This is high praise from me, as I am not really a fan of playing magic users, but the intoxicating level of detail, customization, writing, sound, lighting - magnificent!  I soon forgot I was playing NWN.

A Dance With Rogues is a runner-up; what it often lacked in imaginative tilesets it more than made up for in a gripping bodice-ripper of a story - a Frazetta painting brought to life.  I have never played a mod that drew me in on an emotional level like this one - revenge never tasted so sweet, and as for the adult content I refer you to Jayne Cobb.

Baldecaran's series is another runner-up, with its epic sweep and beautiful tilesets - I will never forget the view from the elven tree-city.  One of the highlights of my NWN experiences.

I appreciated what everyone else is saying, but I really loved Tales of Arterra (http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=4046) by Kevin Chan. I also really enjoyed the Paladin Trilogy (Twilight, Midnight) and was bummed that the final module was never produced.
