Maybe I have an exp gain bug as well.. I had enough for Lv6 +~2000xp by the time I got to him. Skipped the undead cave to the left in that area thinking I could go back later. And no, didn't drop the difficulty, just disabled his spellcasting with damage. Oh, and I don't worry about the exp loss from dying.. so there's loss from that
