Level 3 is the lowest level to start Ch 1.   Bosses will be near impossible to beat solo at that level.

Use a range weapon, keep a safe distance and watch the combat log.  After the damage reduction spell collapses, you can switch back to any weapon you like to do damage.  Undead are crit immune so damage will be slow. The boss guy in the next room will be more difficult with faster walk speed so it may be better to wait until you gain some more levels and procure a weapon with some elemental damage on it or set some traps if you have the skill to do it.  Hirng a henchman may help as well for a low level PC.

To clarify: the "sword coast boy" you can't seem to hurt is shielded by a spell that absorbs a set amount of damage.  You need to break down the spell before you'll actually hurt him (I think it absorbs 70 damage total with a maximum of 10 damage in one hit).  In other words, keep poking him and it'll eventually hurt him.

The guy in the next room is a lot tougher, though.  You should really consider starting in the Peninsula District instead of the Beggar's Nest, or at least get either Daelen or the Monk to help against enemies immune to sneak attacks.

d'oh, yep, turns out i;m such a noob i'd sauntered through peninsula district (like a boss) and straight on to Beggar's Nest. have got some info at least, some weapons and xp from this mistake!! I will go back to Peninsula and see how well I fare there. then I'll try this next boss in Beggar's Nest  straight away since I've done everything else in Beggar's Nest.

I think you didn't act wrong by chosing the Beggars' Nest as first section to explore. The fact that you manage to shoot the enemy with ranged weapons and this enemy is a slow one (zombies) says you can level up in an easier way. Even the sword coast boy is an easy target if you keep the distance but Drawl would be too much for you. By sacrificing sneak attacks (undead are immune) you take advantage of their slow movement in exchange.
I would beat the sword coast boy, kill every zombie until then and so would get into Nomansland (before Blacklake) but wouldn't still face Loxar which is even tougher than Drawl though Loxar is still manageable with no magical weapons.
Have fun

Oh, by the way Jemanie and Krestal are in two different houses and I think you should talk to Jemanie since he could give you something in order to solve your problem in another way.
