Wild Shape Problem
« on: August 01, 2011, 12:28:15 am »

I'm playing the original campaign.  My character just reached her fifth level of Druid (Monk 4 / Druid 5), which grants the Wild Shape ability.  I have tried using Wild Shape for the first time at the Helm's Hold courtyard, fighting the curst warriors and skeletons and so forth.

The problem is that in Wild Shape form (I've tried brown bear and panther), my character won't attack.  I use the mouse to move the sword icon over the target, my character moves to the target, and just stands there taking hits.  She'll make attacks of opportunity when the skeleton mages cast spells, for example, but won't make normal attacks.

What's going on?

What version are you using, v1.69?  It may be a bug fixed in later patches but I would have to scan a massive listing to check so confirm your version at least, please.

edit:  Ignore that question.  I just remembered.  The first time you shift EVER, it always does that.  Just unmorph, rest and your form will attack as normal.

Thanks for responding.  I'm using version 1.69.  After experimenting with different things, I have found that if I use Wild Shape, rest, then use it again, I am able to attack in Wild Shape on the use after resting.  I don't know yet if I just needed to rest first after gaining the level, or the first use is just one I can't use to attack, or maybe I had an effect that prevented attacking somehow and the rest cleared the effect.

*lol*  you figured it out yourself (see edit of previous) .  Good.  '<img'>

One other thing that may happen is you may get a strange item appear in your inventory that is the skin for the form.  It should say PC properties on it and should disappear at some point, though you can't actually remove it yourself. It happens with shifter forms but can't recall if it does for druid wildshapes.  That is also a "normal" bug.

This behavior is due to a buggy implementation of a check to ensure that a horse rider didn't attempt to polymorph. Some discussion of it is on NWNWikia's entry for polymorph and on the corresponding talk page.

More importantly, thanks to The_Krit, there is a fix that should prevent the bug from happening, even on the first shift. The fix is a simple drop-in to the override folder and it's available on the Vault.

Is CEP required to be in place to install this or will it work with just vanilla v1.69?

Its primarily designed for vanilla 1.69 and also "compatible" with other CC like CEP. Compatible in the sense that those CC will work but might override the 1.70 features. Same like it was with older patches, the CC had to be updated to allow new features.

If you have CEP1, then there are only like two or three features that will get overriden by (DOA base items). Cant say with CEP2 as im not familiar with it. Neither Project Q.

Sorry if its still not clear enough, my english is not perfect.
