Best Quest?
« on: June 08, 2011, 03:47:02 pm »

What is in your opinion the best quest of NWN? What I really loved was the main quest in chapter 2, where you had to find the cult. The first time it was so brilliant to experience. When I entered an Inn I always wonderd who would appear this time haha:D.

So, what's the best quest in your opinion?

I liked the fire tower where you had to find evidences and do a judge.

Chapter 3 - The Creator Race Ruins, past & present, to find one of the words of power.

It was the only quest I really had to pay attention close enough to defeat the protectors and solve all the puzzles.  The translation gimmick was an interesting concept.

I suppose the one ShaDoOoW liked is my second choice if he means the Castle Jhareg quest in Charwood with the two brothers and Belial.

I like the idea of time travel since I personally find it next to impossible to do myself yet still enjoy the vicarious experience nonetheless. '<img'>

It's been so long since I played through the OC, but I remember really liking the castle trial quest. I was actually invested in making sure I had all the evidence and such. Also, I may be completely misremembering here, but was there a quest where you had to go inside a snowglobe or some other alternate universe like that? I just remember following a deer around in a otherworldly landscape, but I found it weirdly fascinating.

I really liked Fort Ilkard Battle and the quest connected to it. You had some nice freedom to solve the quest different ways. SPOILER following:

Killing the Uthgards, killing the Fort Commander(for the cure) or making peace by persuading the commander.

Actually, these are both alternate universes but different quests in different chapters.  In Ch 3, the one with the snow globe finally pits your PC against a white dragon to retrieve one of the words of power.  In Ch 2, venturing to find the deer in the spirit realm is just one part of locating evidence about the cult (believe it or not, to gather this tidbit of information, your PC actually has to commit suicide).

With all the story depth provided in the OC, it's a wonder more players didn't enjoy this campaign more than they claim to.

I did enjoy the OC immensely. The characters like Aarin Gend were cool and really fleshed out.

I played hotu up to chapter 3 with a barbarian. I never could play any of the other campaigns longer then like a half hour. Multiplayer was just so much more fun.

I liked the OC, but I felt like the sidequests, particulalry the (apparently) three that I mentioned (thanks for the clarification, HipMaestro!), were more interesting than the main story. That and being disappointed that you only got one companion at a time soured me on it a little. I would probably enjoy it more if I played it again now, being more familiar with NWN, but I always seem to want to replay HotU instead.

I agree. I really enjoyed the OC, and still play it once in a while. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite quest out of all the ones I liked so much.

I liked the fact that some of them, like the Castle Jhareg quest in chapter 2, didn't have a win/win scenario possible. In that one, there was no way to punish Belial without punishing everyone else involved. You were forced to pick a lessor of evils. Thought provoking stuff.

Same here. I think the OC is massively under-rated.  I really think it is only Chapter 1 that is weak, with a highly predictable story, but Ch2, Ch3, and Ch4 more than make up for it.

This campaign is huge and changes so much after chapter 1. Creator Ruins, Snowglobe, Charwood Village, Green Griffon inn, Luskan High captains, etc..  So many standouts.

I liked the Charwood quest the best. It was creepy and atmospheric.

My favorite quest was the whole Luskan Tower break in. First you have to put a beat down on the high captains just to get in. And then you find the whole place is practically a battle field with monsters and spells flying all over the place. And you're running up and down the whole thing. The whole Luskan chapter in general was my favorite part of the game, because your pretty much entering a civil war, play both sides against each other and come out on top.

Chapters 1 and 2  were excellent.  Castle Jahrag's was haunting and challenging. I just started replaying this game and just managed to kill Belial with a build I never tried before (Dexterity based Elven-Wizard 6 / Fighter 4 / Torm Champion 3 so far).

The Ancient Ruins were good too. with lots of loot...

I like the barkeeper's Mutharin challenge  too, which I do at the end.
