Why is HotU bad for coop?
« on: May 18, 2012, 02:26:35 am »

I have heard that HotU is not good for coop, but no further details. In what way does it not work?

Someone else will have more details, but the main thing that I recall is that the cut-scenes don't necessarily play for everyone in the party. Mostly, they are informational, but there are a couple places where it is a CS that puts the player in position for a given quest (e.g. the daughter quest in Lith My'athar). I have played it with a friend and there weren't too many issues with the module, though we did decide that one PC should do most of the talking and keep anything that seemed like a plot item. Keep a few saves around in case you get stuck, but I don't recall any show stoppers.

Honestly, the issue we ran into was that the module was pretty easy with two PCs in the mix...

Each time we tried this with our LAN group, the game froze after the first wave in the battle Ch 2 finale battle were vanquished.  If this happens In single player, one can usually get the game to "jump" the gliche by pressing the ESC key a few times, but in MP it crashes the game completely without saving the session.  It is possible some of these issues may be affected by the graphics capacity of the host machine, but, if so, we have never figured out a solution, swapping host machines, rinsing and repeating.

For all I know, the balance of the game after that battle completes runs just fine.  We found no other game-breaking issues up to that point unless you want to count lost continuity of the henchman-specific convos which seemed to trigger sort of randomly.  So for roleplay purposes, it could be VERY hard to manage.  Dunno.   We just wanted to finish the campaign with 4 players regardless of whether the side themes were maintained or not.

At the moment im playing HotU with my friend in LAN. We only had two problems. The daughter quest in Lyth Myathar - only one of us was teleported inside, but he was able to exit the building so we fought them together outside '<img'>. And the other problem is that only one of you can fight the valsharess (1000xp). Overall its not so bad really
