The maker island, please help!
« on: September 16, 2010, 07:16:08 pm »

I am at the first floor of the Maker island. There's a room in the north of the map. If I enter there, I have to fight the spirit of my weapon. At the end of the battle, there are "things" on the ground and one of those things are my two bastard swords.
I am unable to pick them up in my inventory. I tried not to use them entering the room. I tried to sell them at the genius before entering, I tried to give them to Valen, but nothing changes. At the end of the battle, my swords are on the ground and I can't pick them up. Is it a bug? How can I have my swords back?

I had to recreate the perfect equipment that my P&P character has, so I am a bit ANGRY LIKE A BEAST for not being able to pick them up again. Any suggestion?
Sure, I can avoid that room (nothing interesting inside), but I am a bit frustrated!

Seems like a bug to me.  You should be able to grab your weapon(s) from the spirit's remains.

Vaalyah... you really need to beg, borrow or steal a copy of the v1.69 patch somehow.  Until you do, you won't know whether you are experiencing known issues that have been resolved in the last patch or something unique for the game you are involved it at current.  Not trying to harp, but really... your NWN experience will be so much more trouble free, trust me.  Also, if you used a custom utility to make the weapons, I'm guessing all bets are off in that case (possible incompatibility?).

Incidentally, whatever the BEST equippable weapon your PC has ON ITS PERSON (or hench's person) when entering the dungeon the FIRST time will be the one the spirit steals.  So don't try holding a mundane sword and stashing your premium stuff in inventory (or with Valen)... it won't work.  The designers were much too clever.  My method:  I place all my primo weaponry in a bag and leave at the doorstep OUTSIDE.... then enter with a sling, invisible, and go directly to the spirit, squeezing by any golems that may be loitering around.  Then pick up one of the mundane ones on the floor to use in the combat after the door slams shut (BTW, IIRC the door can be closed/bashed before hand but will obviously make you visible again if you do).  Once you've entered the dungeon once, it's too late to try any strategies.  The variables have already been set.

That has always worked for me.  Maybe it will for you as well.

All the best luck, as usual,

Hip

Hmmm, well, I like the "stealing" option! :-D

I used the toolset for creating the weapons and the armour of my PC, and then imported in the game, with the spawn item cheat... nothing so exotic, as you can see.

Ok, so I think I would ask the same friend to download also NWN1 patches... He is a saint, I have no doubt!

Ok, maybe I would try to left my swords on the floor before entering that room.

Can you also tell me how to get rid of that stupid scavenger golem? I read in a walkthrough that I have to enter the control room, write 54 on the control panel, and then click on the center panel to kill him. But even if I write 54 (tried also with 45), the golem doesn't come.

Another bug, maybe?

The imposition will be worth it.  I promise. Now, the CEP... that's another issue... more suited for Christmas time methinks :innocent:

Ok, maybe I would try to left my swords on the floor before entering that room.

Must not have made it clear enough... you need to purge your PC and henchman of all high-quality weapons BEFORE entering the dungeon THE FIRST TIME.... not "before entering the room".  Once your PC has entered the ground-level doorway outside to the dungeon, your goose has been cooked... the die has been cast... the water has flowed under the bridge... essentially, it's too late to try to outwit the script.  If you have a Save from BEFORE entering the first time, now THAT might work.  Still, I'm dubious about how the game is trying to digest your custom items seeing as how there are no override linkages to any 2das or anything.  Seems to me like an accident waiting to happen but I'm not a builder so can't be sure.

Can you also tell me how to get rid of that stupid scavenger golem? I read in a walkthrough that I have to enter the control room, write 54 on the control panel, and then click on the center panel to kill him. But even if I write 54 (tried also with 45), the golem doesn't come.

Not sure.  Your custom items may cause a domino effect.  Did you press the console (the center placeable) after setting the number?  If not, do that.

Tip to control the controller(i.e. scavenger golem):

Try this:  Assemble that Golem Attractor artifact and drop it next to the scavenger.  Your worries will be over and you can destroy the scavenger, if the game didn't get bugged, at a later time.

*bacio*''

Well, I use those weapons since the OC, and no problem at all. I can avoid the "weapon eating" room, or just spawn-item them again after the room!

In the console room: I enter, write 54, and then wait. Nothing happened. Should I wait for the golem to be summoned in that room?

If I click on the center console, I receive damages. [disclaimer: I read how to kill the scavenger from the net. They said "go immediately in this room and do ..." so I haven't done a previous look around. Could this be the problem?] [no, I don't usually read the solutions on the net, it has been a case, since I saw the golem rebuild themselves, I thought of a bug and had a check if it was normal]

However, I don't know how to kill the scavenger: he doesn't act like an enemy (read: I cannot attack him) and I cannot speak, either. What am I supposed to do? o_O

Grazie! ^^

Maybe you'll have to do that if you don't have a save prior to entering the dungeon.  It's no biggie, really except for the sweet No-crit headgear in there.  And IIRC there are components for creating one or more of the special golem-fighting artifacts.

That (damage) is only suppose to happen if you entered a non-valid number into the panels.  Are you sure the left panel glows with "5" and the right panel with "4"?  If so, pressing the center console should transport the scavenger into the room and kill it before your eyes. I'm hoping this description matches yours of "write 54".  If so, that should work.  You should not wait.  Just press the center console after the correct numbers have been set on the left & right panels.

However, I don't know how to kill the scavenger: he doesn't act like an enemy (read: I cannot attack him) and I cannot speak, either. What am I supposed to do?

It's set as plot so you can't kill it with direct combat, only with the panel setting routine.  But like I said before, you can use the Golem Attractor gizmo that can be made in one of labs to pretty much immobilize it until you can figure out the panel room.  The Golem Attractor looks like a small glowing ball on a pedestal that pulses with an energy field.  All golems within range (apparently the scavenger is also affected by it) will be forced to remain within it's range.

I have about... 35 save files in my folder? The problem is that I don't remember if I had overwritten one just before entering.

However, I should leave my swords there, enter the dungeon, enter immediately in that room, kill my weapon, take whatever I need from the inside, and then exit again to take back my swords, is it correct?

I put my PC in the middle of the two panels that change numbers. The one on my left shows 5 and the one on the right shows 4. I read 54 over my PC's head. Maybe the scavenger is not summoned because I had not been in the library where there is a book saying "enter 54"?

To say the truth, I get a bit anxious each time I enter that dungeon. It is Valen fault! As soon as we entered that place, he did a long speech about "how it is dangerous here, pay attention where are you sending us, we are all in danger"... and now I am literally upset for Deekin's safeness :-s

Moreover, I did the city of avariel (or how it is spelled), then the maker island. Maybe I am not enough levelled up to enter this dungeon... maybe I should have gone to mind flyer or beholder before...

Been there, done that.  I can relate. I've already accidentally overwritten a game well into Ch 3 with a save testing with my trainer module.  Blast! I hate when that happens!

If it's a "virgin" save, meaning before the first time you enter the dungeon in that game... yes. Just tested it.  Bought a lame sling and some invis potion in the city, sailed over to the island, dropped all my sweet weapons outside the door, sneaked past any resurrected golems (it's a halfling so was pretty easy to do, size-wise), entered the spirit room, grabbed a +2 sword, killed the spirit (needed some serious buffing!), & checked the remains.  Just Merkil's Hammer which is a nasty weapon, BTW.  Returned to my stash which was all there intact. Done.

Tested this, too, while invisible.  If you are facing the back of the room, 5-4 will summon the scavenger and destroy it by clicking the center control panel.  Also, tested killing the Guardian and that worked fine too.  was kind of funny that the nasty iron golems just stood there while I performed my task.  Looks like the maker never installed True seeing into them '<img'>

Stock up on invisibility potions.  You should have found some True Seeing-casting items in Ch 1 to allow Deekin to cast his buffs on you while invisible.  Then you'll be able to let Valen chatter away in perfect safety.

Dunno.  I randomly grabbed a level 20 rogue/cleric/ranger halfling PC and had no problem.  Well... the spirit took a while with the lame weapon, but otherwise seemed pretty easy to me.  Try to make that Attractor item to immobilze most of the wandering golems while you proceed at your own speed.

There is tons of XP available in the dungeon so you should be able to level at least once inside there.  To be honest, when I play that level I actually ENCOURAGE the scavenger to keep resurrecting golems to farm more XP.  That's because I have no scruples:P

               Hi!

After you get the '54' above the panels, do you use the middle panel? IIRC you need to activate the correct number AND THEN use the middle panel to actually summon and destroy the golem.

Apparently the OP is experiencing a game gliche of sorts.  Perhaps a variable didn't set correctly?  Dunno. I never checked if there is a qualifying trigger zone for the click to work but I doubt it.  The PC's position shouldn't matter once the numeric code has been set.

Hip, have you really done all those tests? I fell a bit exploiter :-P

Ok, this evening I have no time to try, but tomorrow I will do it for sure. So I could see what is going to happen.

Are you sure that the invisibility potions would work? Several times (also in NWN2, even if I am invisible and I don't attach anybody, the enemy seems to follow me and keeps attacking...

It took a total of about 5 minutes, 3 minutes spent beating on the spirit.  My little halfling, of course, has haste boots.'<img'>

There only two reasons I can think of why they still attack. 1) they have True Seeing (none of the golems in level 1 do) or have cast See Invisibility in your area, or 2) you swallow the potion while standing right next to them.  In case #1 only Greater Sanctuary works or you are out of luck.  In case #2 just move away out of detection range.  NEVER reciprocate or the spell will end. They will eventually turn back and your PC will be able to re-approach without detection. It's better to pre-buff so as not to need to deal with any potential attacks like that.  I personally like Invis better than stealth because no speed reduction. But Hide/Move Silently may work just as well with a high Dex PC, just slower and permanent until mode is changed.

Just key your eye on the effect icons at the top of the screen.  When the invisible one begins to flicker, get ready to swallow another.  Sneak in perfect safety... just watch those traps!

I know all spells in the Italian translation. What is "haste"?

I see you use a lot of tactics while playing. I am more of the type "Go, PC, go and crush all their heads!!!"

Haste (fretta) or perhaps "Speed" (velocità)

Oh, sure, velocità! All my party members has something to give them velocità! ;-P

Thank you!

I love that spell, most because I quickly get bored when the characters need 20 minutes to come out from a dungeon '-_-''
