Where do you play?
« on: January 16, 2014, 08:43:04 pm »

               Greetings stranger!

I see alot of people here. Many frequent users and some new, and I'm just curious - where do you spend your time, which module or modules do you play on, and what is the reason you play just -there-?

Over the past years I have played on The Dalelands Project, Taliv, Tellaria, The Way Inn, Cormanthor, Shadows of Tilverton and now Netheril Rising.

I currently have two characters on Netheril Rising. But I try to spend some time building a persistent world aswell. I am still looking for the "perfect" server that will satisfy all my needs!

[I assume people play. Those who doesn't play, feel free to post what you do instead with NWN!]

When the original (2002-2010) and later refreshed* versions (2010-2012) of Vives were still live I played there. I am now working with some of the original Vives team as well as others on a complete remake and new vision for the same PW that is currently in Alpha and crawling toward a Beta.

I built a closed PW, Arnheim, that I ran in sessions and left up periodically from the end of 2011 through end of 2012.   I did this while still playing on Vives, Border Kingdoms, Escape from Undeath, and Sigil Planar Legends. I can't recall all of the PWs I have logged into over the years, but this group includes the ones I liked the most.

Arnheim, Vives and Border Kingdoms are the servers that I liked the most, but they are all defunct now more or less. Sigil Planar Legends is still live, has a good community, and is fun to play either solo or with friends.

I've been so busy lately however that I haven't logged into a PW for a few months.

* - I completely redid all of the HAKs for Vives dating back to 2002 without having to rebuild the server. Thats what Vives refreshed was. The same module, but vastly facelifted and set up to be easy to upgrade going forward in the hopes the team would resume work on it. Sadly I was wrong on that last one. I rebuilt the server, but the team never returned to keep it going - which is why I ended up building my own PW.

I've frequented a few PWs in my time, but more as an observer than a player, although some of them did get me hooked and I stuck around, but the list is short.

Cormyr Dalelands Project.
Sigil Planar Legends.
Cormanthor.

The first two are very high magic, Cormanthor had a +2 limit from what I recall, and is no more, which is a shame because it was the first PW I ever tried. Out of that list, Cormyr Dalelands Project is the friendliest group of players I've had the pleasure of playing on a server with.

I started playing NWN in 2006. I've had characters on over a dozen PW's in that time. My favorite, and the one I still spend most of my NWN time on, is Original Thain. Lot's of custom scripting, but no hak's required. Friendly players and staff.

I started playing in 2011 (thanks to GOG). I've played a number of single-player modules, and had characters at Arbor Falls and Ravenloft POTM.

But lately I've spent more time learning scripting and tinkering with world-building.

been playing nwn off and on since I cant remember. around 2003 or 2004 I guess. I've played on countless servers and PWs, some of which were cool for awhile. now I usually find myself playing 12 Dark Secrets because it is one of those games where you don't have to "keep up" with anything. you can log in at your convenience and do what you want without having to catch up to a story or explain your absence. the DMs and most everyone who plays there is mature, cool and has a good sense of humor and adventure.

I started about the time SoU came out, discovered the toolset, and set to developing a LAN server. Used to play DM-run sessions with friends - now its with the family.

Still waiting for Vives to go up myself. I want to roam around in that world and see all of Henesua's work.

Still a very active community of us playing over at World of Caenyr for the last, almost 12 years. We're always excited to get new players! '<img'> If you want to read more on it you can go to the site, www.worldofcaenyr.com, or I have a post in the PW forum here that gives details as well. http://social.biowar...9/index/3155256

I've been over at Arenthyor, for the most part. It's a pretty brutal world, but there are some good players there, happy to rp, sit around an inn and chat. '<img'>

(Oh, and full disclosure, I liked Arenthyor enough to become a builder and art-monkey there. '<img'> )

I play on the Thay PW mostly now. I can't really find much else that interests me right now. I used to play on Forgotten Realms Cormyr, and I played on Sigil Planar Legends a couple of times.

I used to play 3 towns when i started playing, moved around to a few others, not many really got my attention, mostly cause at the time i didn't want to download anything to play. so, after i got bored with 3 towns and other servers, i built Lands of Larinia. had it running while i was building it for some time. then had kids... took like 3 years off for the most part... back to running Lands of Larinia 24/7. Lots of quests and, from what i've been told, great story. I welcome anyone that wants to give my server a go.

oh and i still like to keep it download free.

I started with the official campaign and the expansions, then went online.  I used to play on Bastions of War (casually) and adventured in Blackstone Keep (I think that's what it was called) and on a Lord of the Rings server (Gondor vs. Mordor).  Then I decided to play around with the toolset...

I started building a PW (while on a dial-up connection, even then getting hooked on community-made content) and put it online about a year after I started.  As of today it's been up for 8 years, and I also play in it (since what's the fun in building something if you never get to play around with it?).

Your "perfect server" may just be the one you're building yourself, YeoldeFog, I remember having a ton of fun in others' worlds, but the one I made is the one that'll always be the best fit for my personal vision of "D&D on the computer".
