Wow, just 2 post, and I thought SOU was the best..

SOU to me was the best of all the modules made by the original makers of the game...

I could be wrong, but would anyone agree with that?

Somehow the social boards need to be easier for new players to find. テつ That may have something to do with the paucity of apparent interest. テつ Anyhoo...

My impression for what merit it may afford...

The first exposure to henchman inventory added an interesting dimension and interactions which the OC didn't have.

I also enjoyed (and still do) the value as a precursor to HotU. テつ Please don't anyone kill Deekin!

However, the first chapter always seems tedious to play through and even more so with additional run-throughs.
Besides there was trouble with the portion of Chapter 2 (IIRC, the crypt tower) where the walls keep going up and down. テつ It was creating such severe, almost unplayable lag that I went looking elsewhere for inventiveness. テつ Turns out, for whatever reason, v1.69 fixed that nicely, so I continue to revisit it occasionally.

I always felt SoU was too short, so in that respect, any module that leaves you wanting more of the same MUST be doing something right, no?テつ '<img'>

I personally liked SoU, but I still think HotU is best of the nwn modules. Ofc there's no reason to go play HotU before you play SoU through. I'm big on continuity. Never understood why I would want to make new char on HotU.

SoU is enjoyable way to get to know your char who then goes to beat drows in underdark and ofc Deekin funny. '<img'>

Weirdly, most people prefer HotU to SoU. To me, though, it just didn't have as much polish. The end was pretty linear and hack-and-slash. I actually got stuck on Grimnaw and couldn't go back because it was one-way so spent my time freezing to death outside. I blame it on the fact that the game didn't let me bring Deekin through for some reason. Maybe I just prefer low-level adventures to higher ones.

I rather enjoyed SoU than the others because of the comic relief from time to time (kobolds arguing with each other and using their weight to operate a pully; oxen stampeding kobolds ;lazy dragons; misfit companions; over confident villians; stereotypical anti-social hermits; ant people; Deekin; etc etc.), and the setting, where you go from some remote snow dump to crawling in a desert and end up atop a flying city.  It felt like a true adventure into the realms of mythology, which I thoroughly enjoyed.  The campaign was silly at times, but it was this that floated my boat.  It was very imaginative, and unique.

I tend to lean toward SOU as my favorite. I have certainly played it more than the others. I like the more light heartedness of it. It has funny moments, which higher level mods usually seem to dismiss for some reason. HOTU, while good and I do enjoy it, is much more serious and lacks a certain something that SOU has.

SoU. I always felt myself travelling through an unknown abstract dreamy fantasy world when playing it. As HotU reminded me too much of the real one we all know of, just a bit more violent if possible.

A nice sort of escape.

SoU is the only one I liked enough to finish (also it was a bit shorter, but hey).

Personally I liked HotU more, but maybe that's just because I'm used to high-magic stuff.  '<img'>

SoU was good though, once I played it all the way through.

I'm always starting a new char in SoU but the early part is boring  and the desert kinda sucks.. And worst of all is the undead tower and everything in the middle tower up to the worlds easiest last boss... :/

I'm in the middle of playing SoU again right now.

I'm really enjoying it. I appreciate a lot of things about it:

1) Increased difficulty. You actually have to play levels 1-3 instead of getting to effectively skip over them in some kind of safe tutorial scenario. I actually have to be afraid of the kobolds and rats as soon as I walk out of Drogan's school. The boss battles are by-the-skin-of-teeth, pull-out-all-the-stops challenges that provoke adrenaline and emotion. I actually shouted "Woooo!" out loud after beating J'Nah the other day.

2) The economy is appropriately stingy, and magic items are very hard to get. I've opened so many chests and drop bags to find, wow, three gold pieces, I can't tell you. I wanted to shout with joy when I found my first armor with a +1 enhancement. This is how it should be, friends. SoU reminds me of my high school DandD days playing with a very conservative DM - we spent a year playing first-third level, and we were lucky if we found a free longsword and one gold piece, much less a magical enhancement. (My best friend the rogue acted like he just won the lottery when that DM let him find a magic ring of AC +1.)

3) It has Deekin in it. And a floating city. And Tymofarrar, And Medusa. Come on, what's not to love?
