Any sandbox PW's left or does anyone wanna create one?
« on: March 05, 2014, 11:37:57 am »

Any sandbox PW's left like Isandor, Freescape, Overgate or any of the Zombie Survival worlds?

You know worlds where roleplaying, DM events and playercreated content is central.

I got the old freescape files lying arround and it sort of works. I just need a little help with scripting and hosting to make it a living world again. So if anyone is up for it shouldn't be to hard to host a ton of fun again.

I'm not sure exactly what 'sandbox' means or the mods you mention, but my thinking is that it would mean a place where most anything can happen (vs. a predefined land where the storyline is of an evil overlord, for example, who regardless of the player involvement, wouldn't get overthrown).

If so, check out Arenthyor (arenthyor.com).  RP is wide-open (provided it fits within the lore of the land) and DMs support character storylines.  We take an interest in the personal story of each PC and help to craft arcs that incorporate their development.  Additionally, DMs drop in and try to run events or enhance RP that is occuring at the moment.

We do have adventure-style quests as well to keep you occupied and it's a very challenging world (read as: hard).

By sandbox i mean player created content. In freescape players can build crafting stations anywhere they want and there are no merchants so everything has to be mined or gathered and crafted. Players could also play goblins, kobolds or drows and would get different starting locations so they could fight it out between themselves.

By sandbox i basically mean NWN meets Minecraft. Except we got the idea way back in 2004 or something. Way before it was mainstream *pushes up his hipster-glasses*

I think sandbox means different things to different people because of the effort required to implement sandbox systems. Many RP worlds depend on a team of builders and DMs to respond to player actions rather than script a ton of automated systems. I like to think I am building a sandbox PW right now but the sheer effort of automating it is demanding. Here and there I gloss over things with the thought that we can deal with them by building in response to the players. Anyhow. Goodluck

www.arelith.com

We're very much what you are describing. Resources that are collected by players to create things that stay persistently in the world, being able to edit their descriptions, etc. Lots of custom content on Arelith without any Haks. Heavy RP atmosphere with NO ooc chatter, ever. High player count, in the 70-80 player range during peak times. Give it a shot!
