               Hello!

Well there is a lot available in NWN multiplay. First thing I would recommend is getting your game installed and patched up to 1.69.

After that decide what kind of world you would like ot play on. Gamespy if you look is broken down into various categories from roleplay to action to social and many many more. Note that red names usually need a password. Additionally, you can search for servers on nwvault.com. It basically lists all the various worlds and stuff you need to play on them.

Once you find a world one way or another you may need to dl special "hak" files. This is not as daunting as it sounds. They are simply files that hold custom content you need to play on the server. In your base NWN directory there is a hak folder you can place the hak files in. That is all you need to do. The hak files you can generally find on a world's Nwvault page or their forum site.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Many worlds use the CEP which is essentially a big hak pack full of options for clothing, new tilesets, and such so you may want to dl that as well.

               As Aleron aluded to, the suggestion of a good server to play on will rely heavily on your proclivities as a player. Are you interested in deep and rich roleplaying experience, hardcore hack and slash adventures, or something in between?

Once you have found a server you are interested in checking out, you should see what custom content the server requires, as Aleron mentioned. In many cases, a list of such content is available for you to find on a webpage for the server (we use an Installation Guide for this). Even without that information provided somewhere easy to access, you can usually tell what sort of custom content the server is running by attempting to join it; an error message will tell you what file you are missing--Google can help you track it down.

As a complete newbie, I would recommend any server with a helpful and available community. Using references such as Wikis will help bring you up to speed on the gameplay; NWNWiki in particular covers everything about the base mechanics of the game. Having the above mentioned community though makes it easier by allowing you simply to ask questions rather than wade through novels of documentation (unless wading is your thing, then more power [knowledge] to you).

               Basic multiplayer connection:

Start NWN.
Click on "Multiplayer" button.
If you don't already have an account, click on "Create New Account" button and fill in the needed info.
Click "Join Internet Game" button.

The Gamespy screen will open up and start loading with servers.  Start by picking a general game type from the menu on the left, which will help focus your choices a bit.

Click on a server and hit the "Server Details" button to learn more about it.  If you like what you see and have the required custom content (should be listed on server's website, which should be listed in the description, not all servers use extra content), just click the "Connect" button.

Many servers will have you create a new character just for playing on that server once you're connected (unless it the box saying "Allow Local Characters" is checked).  Once that's done, you should be able to get adventuring!

{
Newbie-friendly server plug: The World of Aenea
- friendly, helpful players with a casual mixed action/roleplay atmosphere
- does have hefty custom content downloads needed before connecting
- - CEP (used by many servers, only need to download this one once)
- - Aenea-specific haks (with lots of stuff not in other worlds)
- Gamespy list: PW Action
}

               There are many newbie friendly servers out there.

I have made a list of some servers on our NWN1 Community page on Xfire:

http://www.xfire.com...s/superfly2000/

There you can also find some realtime information about the servers and also links to their respective website/forum. I would say all of thoose featured on that list are newbie friendly.

I would be happy to chat with you, preferably using voice, if you need more information about how the playing goes.

Oh..by the way...Xfire is a chat program for gamers. You could say something like Steam or MSN.

               If you're looking for something more in line with roleplaying, I suggest either Amia or Arelith. Amia tends to be a bit more casual in terms of the restrictions they place on their players. Arelith is much more 'hardcore', restricting players to being in-character at all times. Amia also requires haks, which you could download on the website. Besides these servers, there's quite a few good ones out there, if you feel adventurous enough to try out a few servers on Gamespy. Like I said though, it's whatever you prefer. That's one good thing about NWN, there's really a large range of gameplay styles that could suit you.

               Feel free to stop in at the World Serpent Inn too. Most players and staff are happy to help you understand how the game works and help you along. We're listed under the RolePlay section on Gamespy.

               You could consider checking out Neverwinter Connections if you're looking for a DMed Campaign type of regular/ongoing game.

               If you drop by Neverwinter Connections, you have to poke around in the game calender to actually see all the current running campaigns, as most of them are invite only, so don't show up on the front page.  If you see one that matches your interest and time slot, drop the DM a note, as they may well be happy to add another person to their game.  Also check the Player Connection forum, as that is where DMs will often post openings and info about ongoing invite only campaigns.

Regards

Karvon
