Looking for a server with an extensive underworld

               Im looking for a server where you have the option to start in an underground city with adventure areas underground in caverns and dungeons. It doesnt have to be the faeruns version of the underdark either. I roleplay but Im not one to write extensive stories and follow plot lines for weeks on end.  I would also prefer a server that has above average xp gain and low to mid magic world.

               One of the servers on Avlis is the Underdark. The main (playable) city of the UD is Verloghokbol, a trade city controlled by 3 cartels.  We have Tuesday and Thursday Night Rumbles in which many of the Underdark denizens get together, generally with a DM who attends the Rumbles.

There are 9 dungeons, in no specific order:

Minotaur Labyrinth
Deepstone Citadel
Buried Crypts
Devil's Hole
Guano Cavern
Izymandeus' Lair
Spider Cult Lair
Troglodyte Caverns
Ibrasis's Lair

There are lots of quests, ranging from low level quests you can do by yourself or multiple level quests spanning across parts of the server that will require the assistance of other players due to difficulty.  I'm not positive of the amount of areas to explore, but I could safely say it is a few hundred (350+)

There's a lot more info than the wikis give, but that's a good guideline. Our Underdark server is not Faerun's version either.

We do not have it yet but are in the middle of building it. We will start opening it soon. Our main starting city for the Underdark will be Ched Nasad if you have any intrest in helping us grow that area or have idears.

               Save for drow PCs all our current PCs start above ground, the server has over 1100 areas in it and about 500 of those are above ground, so I guess you'd say we have a fair number of subterranian areas. You should really run through the tutorial area we built (aka Noob U.) for an overview of the systems we use - these really set the server apart from others. No lag, no crash (well, ok, we crash about once a year when I add a poorly tested system, but I try to avoid those, really). Many of these systems are key to exploring underground areas, such as swimming, jumping, climbing, etc..



You need only CEP 2.1 or better and nwn v 1.69 with both expansions.

               Ive tried Avlis and it is the server I am laying on right now but I dont think I will be staying. I am not a fan of harsh death penalties and the dropping of all items on a corpse where you died is a deal breaker for me. Its a shame as it looks like other than that Avlis would be a great fit for me.  Dieing on Avlis in a dungeon as a new player with no one on is a real wet blanket on your fun. I also tried ArgentumRegio but again the death token system is a turn off. I will look into your guys other suggestions this weekend.

One of the reasons I dont like harsh death penalties is that I play at odd hours and most of the time there will be 0-3 players on.

That's a pretty rude post ShaDoOoW.


Some view the death penalties on Avlis as being very lenient, others might think anything beyond clicking "Respawn" is harsh. No where do we hide our death system, it just was not relevant to the topic at hand.

Upon death, the player's items go into their corpse (persistent, could last through a server crash). The player is then whisked away to the outer plane of their alignment. From there, they must get back to the world of the living through completion of a very small quest. Once back, they can retrieve their items from their corpse.

There is no XP penalty, there is no permanent loss of items. Monsters generally despawn after a character dies and no other surviving characters remain in the area. Also, on the less common instances where creatures respawn and it's near impossible to retrieve your corpse DMs will assist when asked, or there will likely be someone on IRC or browsing the forums who could hop on and assist in retrieving your corpse (such as putting up an IC post needing help). We have players all over the world, so it's not impossible to get help at awkward timezones.

It is meant to be so, to make Avlis both challenging and engaging. There is no reason to fear death in single-player NWN, but plenty of reason to fear death in Avlis.                Things I am looking for:
1 Fun
2 Mature Players
3 Fun
4 Low to no OOC talk in game
5 Fun
6 An underdak type area for evil races to start in

Things I am not looking for:
1 Harsh death penalties(some xp and gold loss only)
2 Servers that force you to stay in an Inn until you have one of each class archtype just to step safely outside.
3 Players who consider themsleves hardcore(I am looking for fun not a real life simulator)

I try but I am not a great role player nor am I very creative. I have to put a good number of out of game hours into coming up with a background and developing a character.
