Henchman spellcasting problems
« on: January 11, 2014, 06:14:21 pm »

I have two basic problems with associate spellcasters in my module and I have no idea how to bite this.

First of all, my henchman pretty much uses no spells in combat whatsoever. Well, actually, I recall him casting greater dispelling a few times, though it was completely unnecessary, because none of the enemies fought was a spellcaster. Obviously, I find a non-casting spellcaster rather useless.

Second problem, when he does cast some spells (I order him to cast all buffing spells he has, for example) he often starts to cast it, but then stops - the spell slot is consumed, but the spell itself is not cast.

I use Module Builder's Henchman Kit 2.3a in my module.

Any help is welcome.

In my experience, sometimes there's an AI bug where an NPC will have messed up spellcasting.  As a result, I ALWAYS edit a copy of an existing NPC which works fine -- and this avoids the issue.  I don't know if you're encountering this buff, but I'd try remaking the NPC once or twice from scratch and seeing if it helps.  If not, try editing a copy of an NPC spellcaster who casts properly.

If none of those help, it's a different bug, but I found similar issues to what you described.
