RE: 10 Best DMFI Tools??
« on: February 06, 2013, 02:38:43 am »

                I'm looking at adding some functionality to my PW and was wondering what the top 10 DMFI tools/widgets are. In other words, what would be the ten most appropriate or useful DMFI tools for a LAN-based PW that hosts 6 players max?

I've looked over ShadowM's HR DM Tools, but really don't need all the functionality that package offers. I'd also like to avoid the type of large conversation trees it employs.

Keep in mind the following:
  • The PW is a LAN Server
  • It has 6 players and a DM
  • I'm going to convert them over to use the DM Tool feats
  • Prefer to avoid conversation based ones

               I have never looked at shadowM's work,  But from everything I have heard  It is based off of DMFI.  If that is the case there should be text commands for just about everything that can be done from the conversation tree.

               Pstemarie, I converted what i thought were the most useful DMFI commands for Arnheim. Check out the player tools menu (class radial menu).

Arnheim actually does have DMFI but I converted almost all of it over to a better implementation.

I think the best stuff from DMFI however comes from chat commands. Emote Parsing. Languages. And being able to target companions with your speech. This is even further improved for DMs. So just from a RP perspective, I couldn't live without the way those chat puppets were implemented - and the DMFI spy so that you can hear everything in every area.

I improved the DMFI Spy as well so that no matter what you do as a DM you pretty much can eavesdrop on the PCs from anywhere else. Normally this doesn't work when you possess a creature - and you'd lose language translation as well. But I cracked this nut.

Ah... but for DMs the wand/widgets

XP Wand
NPC Control Wand
DM Wand
Voice Widget (or Wand I forget which I like)
Emote Wand
Sound Wand
FX Wand
Dice Bag (very important to give to players)
Affliction Wand
Buff Wand

               @Lightfoot

I have played around with the demo module for HR DM Tools and was really kind of overwhelmed by the size of the conversations. Although relatively streamlined, you still had to scroll through a ton of options to get what you wanted. Therefore, I never really tried to do much with chat commands. I'll have to delve into that a bit more then...

@Henesua

I haven't had a chance to test-drive play in Arnheim - I'll have to rectify that this weekend I suppose. I did notice all the scripting, but really don't have a point of reference as I've never used DMFI in the past.

               no need for that, unless you want to play with my version of the DMFI tools, and see what tools I set up for players (Dice Bag, Emotes etc...) in the class radial like you plan to set up for DMs.

However, the list of my favorite DMFI DM tools posted above is what I use the most when DMing. You might want to test these in the DMFI mod rather than Arnheim so that you can see how they work out of the box. (I Also suggest my bug fix to DMFI 1.09 because I fixed that weird delay at start up)
