ideas for player tools
« on: July 04, 2012, 07:30:57 am »

                Hi, I'm currently searching new ideas to script for tools to use as a player...
I mostly play in LAN with friends and for now only these tools are available (split gold and teleport the group for the leader and dig the ground to find hidden treasures with appropriate item of course)
As the title says I'd like to have new ideas to script for my players entertainment '<img'>

               something i haven't done yet but have considered is to enable PCs to share quest knowledge. So allow a PC to give another the journal entries they have.

               <making plans...>

That fits in nicely with your teaching system, H. Have you thought of moving teaching into a tool-operated function? Might streamline it.

Just an idle thought in an idle mind.

               Teaching is one of the player tools in Arnheim. I think so anyway... '<img'>

               <startled...>

It is? I thought it was convo-operated. :-P

My inattention. Sorry :-/

Edit: Forgot to say I like the quest sharing idea :-)

               well... the conversation allows the player to choose what they want to teach. I couldn't come up with a non-convo way to do that. I'm using a script file and dynamic conversation though. So I don't need to generate all the options in a static convo.

               I scripted a player tool to help expose enemies in stealth mode to their allies.  If you detect a stealthed opponent and use the tool on them, it applies temporary hide and move silently penalties to the opponent.  Your allies would then have a better chance of detecting that opponent for the next couple rounds.

It always seemed to me that in group combat, if someone was sneaking about and you saw them, you'd signal or otherwise point out to allies their location.

               on my PW.
I have playertool01 being a vampire bite power,
a Mental Domination power for another subrace (as long as they remain still, and keep concentration checks, the target is held in place)
That same subrace gets playertool02 as a sacrificial heal power- where they sacrifice a little bit of their own health, to heal their target.

Playertool05 is part of my custom spell casting system, players say a spell phrase, like...
Expelliarmus!!
And then they use playertool05 to target and launch the spell effect.

Playertool09 is part of my post-level 40 character development system. Divinity Levels.
When they hit Divinity Level 2, they get an epic power that can be used once per 5 minutes of real life time. Deals high dmg according to whatever element they are aligned x the amount of divinity levels they have.

Playertool10 = Transport/Travel powers

Vampires, Liches, Shades/Wraiths = Shadow Walk -  a night time/ indoors, underground, dark only teleport. Doesnt work during the day while outdoors. (Click on target, teleports you there..... Darkness Spell can also be used as a beacon, allowing people to teleport to the darkness spell, if they target themselves.

Winged Subraces can use this to fly into the air, and then land at the location, does slam damage to all near the destination point.

Illithid get Dimension Door - Teleport without restrictions of Shadow Walk.
