Tools for Viewing Script Files Outside Toolset?
« on: May 19, 2011, 01:50:58 am »

I'm interested in viewing scripts (from hakpacks, mainly, but also original BW scripts) without having to go through the arduous process of:

1) open the toolset
2) open a mod
3) open a mod script
4) click on "open another script"
5) select to open files from "All Mod Resources"
6) Scroll through hakpak scripts to find one I want to look at.

Surely there's a tool that can view script files without having to open the toolset.  I don't care to modify the script, just view the code.

Thanks!

BioSearcher - allows you to search through default BioWare scripts as well as scripts in hakpaks

Or

NWN Explorer
An application allowing all NWN game resources to be viewed and extracted.

thx for the quick reply.  Didn't realize Explorer allowed you to look at scripts.  Seems like both tools are really useful, though.

Explorer allows easiest views of the scripts, but you can't grab code snippets if you wanted to, which Biosearcher would allow you to do (but is harder to use to browse scripts).

I myself Just use the toolset.   I just open the scripts I want to view all at once.  You can select the scripts to open using the standard windows methods.  Select once script then hold down either the shift key or the control key when you select the second script.   Holding the shift key will select all the scripts from the first to the second to open.  Holding down the control key will select only the first and second.  Select the files you want and open them all.

Or you could just export them all to a folder and open them with a text editor.

While it still requires opening the module one time, once a module is opened in a toolset, go to C:\\Neverwinter Nights\\NWN\\modules\\temp0 (or make a copy of the whole temp0 folder) and look for the .nss files. Those are the scripts of the module and they can be opened in Notepad too.
