A few thoughts to converse
« on: October 20, 2010, 12:46:26 pm »

I know a number of people will probably not share my views, but I am open to debate. I have come across a number of things I would like too see changed but have no idea how too. If anyone knows, where does learning script begin? I have tried following guides before and all they do is give me a run around.

"Learn about 'this' will help you understand 'that' better" And when I go to learn about 'This' it tells me I need to learn about 'Them' or some other crap that's even more broken down. So I just wanna know... where's the starting line? Where does it all begin? I dun wanna have to learn 5 different things just to make one diference. XP Bleh, no thank you. I like learning things in chronologically so I'm not racing back and forth, possibly learning the same thing over. I just wanna nice direct path if anyone can direct me too it. Thank you.

OK, on with the show.

Now, this next topic I came across while trying to think up my own... well what I think might be uniqe class. I was thinking of taking the rouges sneak attack, and applying it to ranged attacks. Yeah, I know what your thinking "It's been done before!" I know, why reinvent the wheel right? The answer is, because you can. Anyway, Researching sneak attacks I found the common wall... doesn't work on undead and constucts. So that put me down the path of trying to figure a way to fight them, then it came too me. Ranger, rangers get favored enemy AND quite a few bow feats down the road. Choosing undead and constructs(If it's available) would allow you to fight them on more equil terms... but it didn't feel like enough. So after looking around a bit I stumbled upon the cleric class. I always thought of cleric as healers so I never bothered with them, then I found out about domains. My hypothosis is to use the destruction and sun domains to make a class not only able to bring down enemies with sneak attacks, but to use the rangers favored enemy and clerics turn abillity to make a complete class. I have no idea if this has been thought of before, I'll also probably be putting this in a build section when I find it and after I test it out as long as nobody already has.

Now that you know the class I was aiming for, heres my thoughts.

In the game it seems Dex is the only component to aid in reflex, just as Con is for fortitude. I'm not sure why, but something feels wrong with the set up of "Put a point here, get a point there." type system. I remember a story in which a guy broke a flesh to stone spell with simply a primal roar, or basically his strength or spirit substituting the roll on will. Or the fact of why doesn't wisdom contribute to reflex? If you read the write-up on wisdom, it says it's for perception. If you can accurately preceive the trajectory of a bullets course by analyzing the angle of the gun, why shouldn't you be allowed to dodge?

What I'm basically pointing out is the Zen Archer. You get the feat zen archery to read your wisdom modifier instead of the dex modifier... and then what? A lot of the other bonuses are still under Dex for bows. What I want is a way for when you achive the Zen Archery feat, the other Dex based feat that have to do with attacking or dodging should become avalable. Using your Wisdom to mesure if you can gain that feat instead of Dex. Some abillities would probably remain unavaillable like maybe rapid fire since it's need for Dex is logical. The muscles need to be fast in order to grab the next arrow. But I still say some feats should be allowed to run on different stats depending on the other feats you have.

The other point I was trying to make, is the save system is too simplified. Put a point in Con and you get a point in Fort... Boring. What about the idea of mind over matter? Wouldn't having a stronger mind allow you to push your body farther? Or a strong body should be able to shrug off certain effects from spells and such if the person can endure it. What I am meaning is to bridge some of the saves with other stats, like if your Dexterous enough you'd be able to move in time with a blow and reduce the impact causing less damage. Of course Con will still put up Fort, but another point would also get a bonus Will save. Just as Wisdom would boost Reflex and Dex would boost Fort. This would make it more rounded in my sense, I just don't know how to implament anything of the sort or balance it with the rest of the systems configurations.

Another thing I wanted to make was an Item, just to let you know it was inspired from a manga.  <>< yeah,="" go="" ahead="" and="" roll="" your="" eyes.="" but="" just="" hear="" me="" out. ="" the="" idea="" i="" got="" was="" partially="" from="" neverwinter="" because="" of="" a="" certain="" bullet="" you="" can="" find,="" the="" rest="" formed="" after="" reading="" mahou="" sensei="" negima.="" to="" be="" specific="" vol.="" 11="" ch.="" 94;="" the="" battle="" between="" a="" martial="" artist="" and="" a="" gun="" specialist.="" the="" idea="" is="" simple,="" holding="" this="" particullar="" weapon="" would="" allow="" the="" user="" to="" shoot="" money="" as="" ammunition.="" costly,="" but="" when="" you="" start="" getting="" at="" the="" higher="" levels="" money="" tends="" to="" get="" less="" important="" anyway="" so...="" might="" as="" well="" make="" some="" use="" of="" it="" right?="" the="" use="" of="" money="" as="" a="" hidden="" weapon="" has="" been="" actually="" used="" in="" history="" if="" i="" remember="" correctly,="" it="" was="" called="" 'rakansen'="" so="" it="" should="" be="" viable="" that="" someone="" in="" the="" forgotten="" realms="" might="" have="" picked="" up="" this="" method="" of="">

The basic Idea to make a sling type weapon that, through script, takes 1 coin per attack. The objects appearance should be something like a funnel, pour the coins in and the funnel carries them to the hand and you use your finger and thumb to fire or maybe some other method. I was just wanting to get this idea out so that if anybody felt like it they could make it, I just think a weapon like this would be cool. To make it balanced though, it would have to fire just as fast as a bow if not faster or it would be quickly deemed useless and forgotten.

The last thing I would like to discuss would be macros through script. How would I be able to build a script(Once I finish learning it) to not only read something as /Normlist1#5 as if I'm pressing the F5 key but also use the shift form of \\ as a breaker, kinda like in a game Rune: Halls of Valhalla. That would allow the Text Mecro ingame to function as an ability macro that would help with some gameplay. I dunno if anyone would wanna write it or not, I just wanna know if it's possible and how I could do it.

Thank you all for reading and I hope to talk with you all about your thoughts on what I've mentioned.

No such thing. Best way to do it is trial and error and reading through other people's scripts is what I have found and then doing your own. Yes, I try the tutorials but looking through someone who is a good scripter and then someone who is a great scripter you can see how to accomplish things easier. I have been tryingt o do this for several years now and even though some folks think I know what I am doing I am here to tell you...I do not. And we run a HoF Server and I still have to ask advice from the Gurus here.

Myself, I disagree with this and while I see your point a bit, I think your reaching on the perception thing. The reason being is percieving someone's actions versus seeing the trajectory path of a bullet are vastly different.

A bullet and its path is Science and therefore more attune to Intelligence but in the same token, Einstein was not bulletproof. Nor is the Dali Lama. Yet I would argue shooting them vs shooting Usain Bolt would be a ton easier as Bolt's speed or DEXTERITY would make him a harder target.

What you are suggesting is a Synergy bonus which several things can do. A good example of a Synergy Bonus was way back in 2004 using Demetrious's UMD Checks.

This is reflected in Amror class as you are able to get hit less. Having more hit points does not mean you can take more damage but instead means just what you wrote...you can "roll with the punches" better.

I mean let us face it...a 10th level fighter taking a battle axe to the forehead and a 1st level fighter taking one should both be killed. But a 10th level fighter has a battlesense so to speak and would maybe deflect this blow so it causes some neat scarring but still leaves his head on.

This would most likely take a hak all together as some of this soudns hardcoded and I would suggest reading up on 2das and haks. I could be wrong but a lot of that is hardcoded as far as I know.

Well thought out and good examples.
