HarvestMoonConsortium down?
« on: February 10, 2016, 08:05:30 am »

Anyone know if it's coming back up?  I'm pretty sure it was up in January of this year, though I may have been mistaken.

It may be down for good.  Not positive on the entire reason.  First thought was a DoS attack, but then you go, "Why?"  Passwords I have to access the backend of the site are not working, so I can't get in to see or fix anything.

Winterhawk doesn't have the time right now to deal with the issue personally and has given me the okay to do an archive similar to what I did for the DLA site.  So I'm in the process of making that happen.  It was also our plan to transfer the domain name to me when it expires in September.

It appears my plea to the site host did not fall on deaf ears.

@MDA, Well done.

Just a little reminder for anyone interested. If there is a website that appears to be down but you are not sure if it's something at your end or the site is really down there is a way to test it. A website called (unsurprisingly) "Down For Everyone or Just Me". Just pop the web address in the box, push the button and in a few seconds you'll know for sure.

Either that or it would be really cool if a CTP member wanted to cull some of the information from their public and private forums into a combination "best practices" and "our best tips and tricks" document.  I love the Omnibus, still use it almost daily, but one of the biggest drawbacks about that format is that the information doesn't always have as much of a "voice" as a purpose-written guide.

Hmmm.... I knew it was down, and had just assumed that the lease had expired.  Thanks to MDA for getting it back online AND for taking the time to back it up somewhere.  I don't have any content to add to the site anymore, and had been asking for months if anyone was even visiting.  I am fairly sure that MDA would be able to find a site log of visitors and that said log would show very little, if any, access by anyone other than myself and winterhawk.  Winterhawk moved away many months back, and both he and I had given up completely on getting even visitors to the site anymore, so as such, I would state that any data that MDA can save and make public is fine by me/

As to so-called 'private' data, there really isn't anything of use to the general public in the so-called private sections... all that was hidden was just day-to-day conversations the staff of CTP had to try to accomplish goals etc... and we made public anything of use to anyone interested.  In actual fact, I had already moved most of the so-called private forum posts into the public view when Harvestmoon took over for the original CTP site way back when... so I don't think there is anything hidden that would be of any use to anyone at this stage, but again, IF there is, and IF MDA or anyone else feels like moving that data around, please feel free.  It got really disheartening to be the only person paying any attention to the site, or to the original goals of the CTP, so, basically, I just gave up.  I can only assume that I personally, have some sort of attitude that drives folks away, so for that I apologize.  I gave all that I could, and after fighting two major computer crashes and three separate lightning strikes, I gave up on attempting to keep the data AND the major work going.  I simply can't do it alone, and at this stage, can not even get gmax nor 3dsmax to run on my current computer so I am out of the loop for now.

Have fun with whatever you find, and if you do somehow make the data more available, please credit the amazing folks (other than myself) that contributed to the CTP over the years and gave so much of their hearts and time to that project.  We never finished, but we did actually accomplish a huge amount before the team blew up.

Folks over time, have seemed less and less interested in the tutorials I had created for the site, so to me it tru;y does not seem to be much of an issue.

Post Script: The ONLY Caveat would be anything related to Solace.  That tileset is still restricted to CTP or DLA and won't be released until I finally am able to finish fixing it enough to be usable.  At this stage, the set is damaged enough to be embarrassing and won't be released until the major issues get fixed.

Bannor, I really doubt that's what it was.  NWN is old, there is just no getting around that.  It does still attract some new players, but the number of people deep in the weeds of arcane CC design is slowly diminishing.  You can see that here in this forum.  People with a ton of talent and experience don't appear as often, and many have moved on.  Life happens.  Interest change.  I think it unlikely that you chased people away though.

What does give me a bit of hope is the new people that have appeared that have an interest in NW as well as content creation.  Hopefully NW will be around for another 15 years, since we'll never see a developer release a system for easily and drastically customizing a game to our imagination again.
